How to maintain stereo guitar, wile feeding a parallel path to bass amp

I'm using helix to feed from 1/4 outs to my two fenders creating a stereo signal. In addition I'd like to create a "bass" signal and feed that to a bass amp. My first thought was to use a xlr-1/4 cable, xlr out of helix into 1/4 input of bass amp, but this creates a terrible buzz. I'm sure I'm suffering from lack of audio engineering knowledge, could anyone help me make sense of this scenario? All my fx loops are already in use. Right now I've settled with a mono guitar / mono bass setup. Any help would be much appreciated!
