skyfirez1
Chad from various Line 6 Helix Facebook groups has come up with a super innovative way to produce a very usable tone on the Helix without using CabSims or IR's. He uses a Parametric EQ in place of a CabSim/IR. Lets hear how this stacks up against my favorite CabSim and IR with the helix, also we jam along with a jam track to get an In context preview of this amazing new innovation!!

TLF2007
this was a good side by side! Thanks!
BigJayBrian
Great idea, and the result seems good enough (or like you said, usable). I will try it, and probably use it for the signal that goes only to my IEM, to save some DSP power. It also opens up the possibility of dual-cab without using too much dsp i need to try it on my bass too :)
skyfirez1
I’m going to modify the eq curve this weekend and see if I can open her up a bit more. I feel like I need more clarity and less fiz on the OTB
ronnief83
Super. innovative. way. Used like 30 years already. :D Chad is good sales man - he called well known technique "OTB" and everybody want to try OTB - "super innovative way to produce a very usable tone on the Helix without using CabSims or IR's." like "- Have you ever tried parametric eq as a speaker sim? - Pfffff. It sucks. Why would I do this in IRs era? - But have you tried Chad's OTB? - Sure. It's awesome and very innovative!" This article could help to tune eq block and turn it into "Virtual Speaker Cabinet": http://www.guitarplayer.com/guitar-player-101/1025/get-smart-how-to-make-a-virtual-speaker-cabinet/49517

Verne-Bunsen
I find it interesting that you would summon Trent Reznor of all people to your defense on this particular subject when he's been recording guitars and amps direct to the board without cabs and then manipulating them with EQ (among other things) since like the late 80s... I think Ronnief83's point is valid and relevant to the conversation.
gunpointmetal
I thought similar when this first popped up. Pretty much all cab sims prior to IR were parametric EQ approximations of guitar cabs and everyone hated it (well, not everyone, just people with ears). NEW IMPROVED OUTSIDE-THE-BOX WAY OF MAKING YOUR MODELER SOUND LIKE A BEHRINGER DIRECT BOX THAT'S BEEN AROUND FOR YEARS THAT NOBODY REALLY LIKES ALL THAT MUCH.
Blondiedk
You do know that it's blasphemy not to praise everything coming from Chad Boston... His disciples will have You burn in Hell. :D :D :D
