Sync'ing Hardware Helix with Helix Native plug-in

Unless I'm missing something, Helix Native can't restore from a hardware Helix backup file (new backup feature in HX Edit 2.30 and above).

It would be great to have this feature, as well as the ability to create an HX Edit compatible backup file from Helix Native. This would make it a lot easier to keep the hardware Helix in sync with the Native plug-in, especially if you use your DAW on a desktop as well as a laptop - keeping them all in sync gets harder.

But having a single file to backup from one and restore to the other would make it a lot easier because there would just be one thing to backup and restore, and it would also keep the set-list order and IR list order intact. Sharing across devices would be a lot easier.

I searched Ideascale and didn't find anything relevant, so I made this Ideascale request:

Please vote it up if this would be of interest to you.

Thanks! I was hoping I was missing something and that capability was already there, but I can't find it. And I think the manual specially says Native can't import a Helix backup file. Hopefully there's an implied "yet" in there.  It seems like the natural progression, so it may already in their plans for the near future. I hope so! Thanks for voting!

Voted! It would be nice to see this implemented particularly to enable easier IR management. For now, although it is true that Native does not allow import of a whole system backup file from HX 2.30, if you look under the settings ("wheel") icon in Native you will notice it does allow you to import a bundle. So you can export a bundle from HX Edit and import it into Native. As you pointed out though we are right back to wrestling with IR order in Native even though it has been fixed in Helix Edit. You can also of course also import setlists and individual presets to Native. The main problem right now is that snapshots are not supported yet by Native so whatever snapshot was active in a preset is the only one that will be imported. I hope IR management and snapshots are the first thing they fix in Native.

Reviving this old thread since HX Edit v2.80 is suppose to have some sort of ability to drag-n-drop presets or block between HX Edit and Helix Native.  I know it's not out just yet; however, does anyone know if it will have the ability to sync presets and IRs between each other?  Drag-n-drop is a nice addition, but I am constantly tweaking my patches and it would be great if I didn't have to manually copy one preset of block one at a time.  Thanks!

I dunno but why not sync manually entire setlist? You can also keep it in cloud in case you have hardware and native in two locations.

Thank you for the suggestion, but who wants to do a setlist export and import each time?  Plus the IRs wouldn't match if there were changes to the IR order.  It would nice if there was an automatic, local sync feature.  I would setup an AppleScript to do this if HX Edit and Helix Native used XML configuration files.

Sure, it would be nice. One drag and drop instead of export/import the setlist. Automatic syncing through the Line 6 cloud would be even nicer. ;)
Some day... maybe.

That's exactly what I was thinking, but a local sync would be a great starting point.  Settings up a a cloud-based storage system with an API accessible to the the Helix would be challenging and expensive; however, if there was a subscription-based model for this I would pay for it.  That's the only way Line 6 would have an incentive to invest in the infrastructure.  Perhaps I should throw this up on Ideascale!

I can hardly beleve this can't be done. I just came to do this today, since my hardware Helix is back at base and... I can't import my hardware backup to Native. Good grief! Any way I can extract the other import-able file types from the full backup I have with me?

You can import your presets from helix to Native. I do that all the time.

What it cant be imported (they are imported, but deprecated in the VST signal flow), are hardware related blocks, like FX Loops / Send&Return. That's obvious since it does require the Helix hardware.

Not sure what you mean with "hardware backup" tho.

This is in reference to the situation where you use HX Edit to create a backup of everything from your hardware unit. The one that keeps the Favourites, IRs, etc. That type of file cannot be imported into HX Native.

As you state, you can import “regular presets” and even “bundle” files, but you cannot do that with a “backup”.

Strange, but true.

Hope this helps/makes sense.

As @PierM and @datacommando referred to, you can use "Bundles" instead of "Backups" to sync your device with Native using the 'File' --> 'Export Bundle' command in HX Edit and 'Import Bundle' command under the 'Settings' icon in Native if you want to sync all your presets and IRs(excepting objects Native doesn't support).

You can also import/export individual setlists using the librarian section of HX Edit, or all presets using the 'File' --> 'Extract Files From Backup' command in HX Edit. It will extract all your presets from a backup which can then be imported individually to Native. You do, as has been mentioned, have to import any corresponding IRs as well when you import individual setlists or presets . I would just import all of my IRs from Helix into Native.  Overall I find the import/export options fairly extensive and flexible.

Thanks, guys. I was in a situation where I didn't have my hardware Helix with me - only my backup files, so the 'extract files from backup' would have done the job it would appear. But the moment has passed. Back at base I will be exporting set lists and other file types that Native can use. It still seems a shame (and a bit silly) that I can't just load a full back up in, though.

It is 2022 and I had to drag every single one of the IRs from Helix Edit to Helix Native. This is insane. As soon as I export the IRs, they all have the timestamp, so the order of the IRs is completely different than on my Helix LT. It wouldn't make sense to import it like this messy mess into Native. Also when selecting a bunch of them it is totally unreliable. Sometimes they don't get copied over, sometimes they do, and sometimes they do, but in a different order (talking about drag&drag between the helix edit and helix native windows)

This is insane. When will they offer us a proper solution where you don't have to spend your evening just to sync the two environments.

Just backed up my Stomp XL again (have purchased another unit for tour backup - the original's switches are unreliable after just two years of work, one had to be completely replaced already).

I run Helix Native for recording and I still can't believe copying backups from device to Native (and vice versa) isn't possible.

The fact you can tell Native to only build patches that are compatible with and can be transferred to a particular unit is brilliant, but why the hell can't the backups freely move between your device and PC?

Having to manually allocate IRs to their positions is a proper pain the a** and way too time consuming.

Hopefully HX Edit 3.70 will be the update we see our lives made a little easier.

If you have Native and HX Edit open at the same time, you can drag presets, setlists, and IRs back and forth.

Strange not read https://onlinecasinohex.ph/blog/how-to-withdraw-money-from-skrill/, but true.

It appears that HX Edit allows the import of regular presets and bundle files, but not backup files containing favorites, IRs, and other settings from a hardware unit. This limitation might seem unusual, but it's essential to be aware of it.

If you need to transfer your settings from a hardware unit to HX Native, you might need to do it manually, recreating your favorites and IRs within the software.

I hope this clarification helps you understand the situation better. If you have any further questions or need assistance, feel free to ask. Happy music-making!

Hi, Jimmy,

I’m rather confused by your comments. It appears you are quoting me from a 2 year old post about importing files into Helix Native. I wasn’t aware that it required any clarification. My post was entirely to clarify something that another user had mentioned.

I thought that I made it clear, that at that time, Native couldn’t import backup files created in HX Edit, but it is possible to import regular presets and bundle file. It’s also possible to drag and drop Presets, Setlists, and IR files between HX Edit and Helix Native. Helix Native even has a hardware compatibility function to match each HX family device.

In fact to clarify what you stated here:

It appears that HX Edit allows the import of regular presets and bundle files, but not backup files containing favorites, IRs, and other settings from a hardware unit.”

I certainly hope that HX Edit imports backup files containing Favourites, IRs and User Defaults, as that is one of the main functions of HX Edit and is the app that creates those files. Before firmware updates on the hardware unit, HX Edit creates a backup file and then allows the user to selectively restore each component of that backup as necessary.

I hope this helps/makes sense.

I have been using Helix Native since it’s first release and my Helix floor since late 2015.

I sold my Helix Floor and I need to restore some presets into Helix NATIVE (I backed up as full HXB files)... Just googling around and found this thread, seems like it is (yet) not possible. What a waste of backup!... So now I need to get a Helix Floor to restore my presets, then extract the specific presets into Helix NATIVE.

This is disappointing
