JTV 59 bridge sorting ghost note problems

Recommended Posts

Hi all

New owner here. I have recently bought a new JTV 59 after much research online, I was a little concerned having read all the bad reviews of this guitar and comments on its many faults but thought it worth a gamble as hooking it up to a Helix and being able to control so many parameters seemed too good to not give it a try.

Anyway when it arrived (none locally so I broke my own rule of never buying a guitar unplayed) it needed a lot of setup work and some major metal work on the bridge (all of the problems I have read about this guitar while researching on line whether to buy one had to do with strange double notes, the sitar like effect on strings etc). I had the same on the high E and B strings even when not plugged in, but it quickly became apparent that the problems were caused by not enough downward pressure on the saddles, so I filed down the slots where the strings run from the rear of the bridge to increase the break angle and therefore the downward pressure on the saddles and now no weird sounds, every string sounds clean and clear. Once this thing is dialled in, and it might take a bit of work (not for the inexperienced or feint of heart) it is excellent and a lot of fun especially when paired with a Helix.

Cheers

Billy

What gauge strings do you run? I tried getting slinky and put 9's on my 24.75" JTV, (a 69S with a Warmouth conversion neck), and it didn't track properly. 10's cleared up my problems. Not as easy to bend with my old fingers, but it sounds good now.
