Tehzim
I have an acoustic with a piezo pickup and a little preamp. I know I can run a DI into the DAW but do you guys have a favorite amp or set of effects when recording? I haven't found one I really like yet. soundog
The best thing I've found (although never as good as using a quality small diaphragm mic) are these acoustic guitar IRs: https://www.3sigmaaudio.com/acoustic-impulses/ which come in a set for mic'ed, sound hole pickup, and piezo pickup. You can record direct into your DAW from your piezo pickup and use an IR plugin to host them (3 Sigma provides a free one), or you can set up a simple acoustic guitar path in Helix and use the IR there, using blocks such as Studio Compressor: Studio Preamp: IR (using 3 sigma IR): EQ: Reverb/Delay to taste
Tehzim
So basically run the guitar into the helix and use the onboard preamp and run it through an IR?
soundog
Yes. You can use the Helix Studio Preamp block, run that into the IR block, and load an acoustic guitar IR into that. Then use the USB to go into your DAW. Here's a good article for some other stuff you can experiment with: https://jimamsden.wordpress.com/2016/01/01/creating-a-helix-acoustic-guitar-patch/ Those 3 Sigma acoustic guitar IRs work wonders with rounding out piezo pickup "quack." They make several models, so pick one closest to your guitar body/style/wood.
DunedinDragon
I second the use of the 3Sigman IRs. I use them live all the time with my acoustic to give it a more "mic'd" guitar feel.
