jrocksout
Following. I'm curious about this too. Though I think a better comparison might be the Tumnus vs the Minotaur since they have same number of knobs. Just saying is all. :)
phil_m
Here's a video comparing the Helix's Minotaur model to the Klon KTR, which is technically more of a Klon than the Tumnus... FWIW, I've gotten rid of nearly every overdrive and/or distortion pedal I own since having the Helix and now HX Effects. I've had all sorts of Klones, the Timmy, and a bunch of other more boutique-y drive. I don't really feel I'm missing anything. The only one I've held onto is the Wampler Dual Fusion, and even with that I'm very close to getting rid of it. The main reason I keep is for on my HX Effects board, and I think there is some utility in having one external drive to make quick adjustments. 1

I miss none of them, in fact the Minotaur OD model is one I use quite a lot on my LT. The only thing I kept is the FF because I made it, but it's so noisy that I'd never try to use it away from the house. Back to the original post; the Tumnus has a pronounced low end punch but you can always overcome that (if even necessary) with EQ.
amsdenj
Best thing to do is to establish a reference and then compare the pedals against the reference. A good reference might be you tube amp’s drive/lead channel. If you like that tone, see what you need to do with the pedals to reproduce and expand it. Pedals can provide a lot of flexibility compared to using an amp’s drive/lead channel. You usually have a lot more control over the distortion voicing - often with bass cut before distortion and treble cut after. Experiment. Its often possible to get similar sounds from different pedals by changing the clean amp settings.
