sturge 2 Posted September 24, 2018 Anyone try running a helix through the poweramp of an AX2 212? I can get one for cheap and was hoping it might be a neutral speaker.
cruisinon2 2,535 Posted September 24, 2018 No idea how neutral those are, but I suspect it's not really FRFR...I know you said you could get it "cheap", but those amps were introduced in the late 90's, if I remember correctly. Unless you're getting it for the price of a trip to Starbucks, I'd look at something from this century. There are a number of FRFR options now that won't break the bank that have become favorites around here... the Altos, the new Headrush cabinet, etc.
roscoe5 252 Posted September 24, 2018 The solid state combos with effects return and celestion speakers I have tried have sounded good with Helix speaker models and IRs off. Crate, Peavey Transtube, Line 6 Spider, Tech 21, etc.
Dano2019 1 Posted September 25, 2018 I had one of those AX2s for years. In fact mine was an "AxSys 212" that I upgraded to AX2 by swapping out the circuit board with the upgrade one. Since the amp was tasked with reproducing a wide range of tones I'll bet it might do a good job as a Helix poweramp. I can understand wanting to know the answer before shelling out the cash, though. As I recall it did a good job of putting out everything from super clean sounds to highly distorted ones, for its time anyways.
spikey 682 Posted September 25, 2018 You "may" have to add a dummy 1/4" jack/plug in the input to get the send and return to work thru the amp IIRC...
