Mesa Dual Rectifier vs Helix, Axe FX & other modelers

My hot take: I think the Axe FX is the closest but it's lacking high end, Helix is next best but it's lacking in low end and everything else is from slightly to significantly worse.

Is there a way to give more balls to the Helix? Can someone do better than him?

I thought that they all sounded decent "in the mix" - different, but not bad. The real amp, however, side by side A/B style, had a clarity in the high end and weight in the low end, one or the other of which all the others lacked. I recently made a setlist of all the Helix amps using Jason Sadites' template. A 4038 mic on the stock cab with a 10k hi cut (for fizz control), a little boost to the lo, hi and presence, a little cut on the bass side of the xover and a little boost on the hi side and it sounds pretty good! I'll have to wait till tomorrow (when the neighbors are at work) to try it at volume though.

I’ve always really liked the HD500’s model of the dual rec.  I actually prefer it to the helix model.  Of course, don’t use a stock cab on the hd500.  Just run the full amp model, set it to No Cab, and run it into an IR.   I’ll usually mix it with a clean amp sound too.
