I have no Factory Presets?

I did both of these, and it seems to work. But, my one question: is this all there is to completely restoring the unit to factory shape?
does a guy need to rerun the version update as well? I have a lot of conflicting things happen to this thing (HX FX), and get no answers from support. I get blocks on the unit where the button and scribble strip are, that go from having an effect assigned and showing in them to all the sudden being blank, and I don't know what i  did to lose it. It drives me nuts. I have to go back an re-add something in that space an then save it to fix it. Then of course there are the FX that come in with there assigned numbers being one that i already assigned to something else, so if i don't catch that the whole thing starts over again. I love the tones and flexibility, but the factory instructions and support are lacking seriously.

Hi MLJGTR,

The Factory reset procedure will usually be all you need to do to clear any bugs from your HXFX, unless you have a serious hardware failure, which are pretty rare events. You could re-flash the firmware into the unit as there is nothing to lose by doing that. Also, sorry to hear that you don’t seem to be getting the answers you want from Line 6 support, they are general very good.

Much as I don’t like to say this, but most of what you are describing could well be down to “user error”, through unfamiliarity with a new box of tricks. It may seem obvious, but the Owner Manual is well worth taking the time to study. Line 6 no longer produce a printed copy, although the Adobe Acrobat pdf version is available to download here:

https://line6.com/data/6/0a020a3d3f4a5a6a1897ecdf6/application/pdf/HX Effects 2.50 Owners Manual - English .pdf

Furthermore in the bottom right hand side of this page there is a large black dot containing a question mark within a white circle. If you click on it, it opens to reveal a “quick help centre” and there is a section for video tutorials about HX Effects which you may find useful.

Hope this helps.

Hi Datacommando,

I'm not above recognizing it could be user error, that's why I am asking the question on the forum, maybe someone else has been there done that. I have the manuals. I have read them, the specific things I mentioned are not addressed in them, there is a lot of info to be learned, but not what I need. It is a complex unit to program, especially if you want to use it in an effects loop, or in my case a stereo loop. I believe you're right that there is nothing wrong with the unit, it's just that this seems to be a mystery error, one that makes no sense until you finally figure it out, then you got it. Thank you for taking the time to respond. I will continue to pursue the problems one by one until I have figured it out. MLJ

Hi again MLJ,

I hope that my response to your post didn’t come across as me being glib, but, in the case of a new user, I would generally regard the manual and videos would be the usual places to start figuring out the fault. It appears obvious that you are beyond those simple quick fix options and it it very annoying for you. I have to admit that I don’t own the HX Effects, although many of the solutions are common because the base operating platform is the same throughout the Helix family of products.

The particular issues you describe are not ones that I’m familiar with or have come across in other posts. The only thing that I can suggest at this point is to raise a ticket with Customer Support, or as noted by “jbuhajla” in the post above, give them a call. Failing that, the thing which will really get things moving is to post your problem in the Helix section on The Gear Page or the Facebook group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/line6helixusergroup/) and mark it for the attention of Frank Ritchotte. Frank is the man, if he cannot arrange to fix it - no one can. Line 6 employees don’t usually hang out on this forum.

Good luck, and sorry I couldn’t help out with this one - hope you get it resolved quickly.

Hi Datacommando,

No worries. But Thanks for your advice. I have many years in tech. Was an IT systems specialist for many years. I  have to learn a lot of this by trial and error, but am glad to report I have a ticket into line6 and have made some progress as well. I will get there. I realize now that every patch  will take  some kind of  modification to  work for me. The  simple hook up method is not what I  will need, and the complicated 7cable method is only mentioned, and shown in a photo. Thanks for the advice. I will seek out Frank Richotte, and hope he is as willing to help me as his reputation that proceeds him indicates. Take care.

Hi once again MLJ,

You mention having little, or no information available about routing using the 7CM.

I stumbled over a couple of threads you may have already seen, but if not check them out and maybe they will be helpful.

O.K. This first one does say 4CM but it does reference set up for 7 cable.

Or this one which features a screen shot of 7 cable routing in HX Edit (from forum user “VirtualGuitars”) which seems relatively easy enough to follow.

Hope this helps.

Hold down all three footswitches while powering up. That will do a factory reset. The factory presets should show up then.

Danger!! I followed this procedure with my HX Stomp and it ERASED all presets. Now each one just says "NewPreset" and its blank :-(

Is there an export of factory presets anywhere that I can import to restore it?

If you did the factory reset and the factory presets didn’t reload automatically, you should re-flash your unit. Just run Line 6 Updater and send the 2.92 firmware to your unit again.

I just bought the HX Stomp XL. It has no factory presets. I did the hold down 1 + 2 and that didn't work. I did the hold down 2 + 3 and that didn't work. I downloaded the Line 6 updater and connected via USB. Firmware update. Didn't work. I went to Global settings and did a Factory Restore. Didn't work. I registered a Support Ticket. 3 days to wait. Instead of waiting three days I'll be returning this piece of junk to the store.

It’s not just holding down the footswitches. You have to hold down the footswitches while powering up. And on the Stomp XL, the factory reset procedure is holding down footswitches C&D while powering up.

Amazing, first, and possibly last post.

Then, when you take it back to the store and they prove that there is nothing wrong with the unit, you will have embarrassed yourself in public for a second time.

Astonishing attitude, from someone not requesting assistance, but blustering about doing the wrong thing and blaming the Stomp XL.

Absolute genius.

Harrumph! Feel better?

God save me, I do love the "I don't know what I'm doing, so I'll blame the gear" diatribes.

Bon voyáge! ;)
