Clean boost (with LT)

If you were going to add, say 3~4 db of clean boost to a preset without adding a lot of distortion how would you go about it? I've tried compressors, OD/Dist, no matter what I do so far I always get horrible sounding oblique bends (like the gain is too high), everything else is fine.

Any help very much appreciated, thanks

I put a gain block at the end of my patch .... I set it to a 3db gain, and assign it to a footswitch.

It retains the tone, and is more transparent than a boost, EQ or overdrive pedal. It also requires very little resources.

When placed at the end of the block it doesn't effect any gain structure of the amp of pedals, it just makes the sound louder.

Another option is a "gain" block not in front of the amp model, but after the cab/IR. That way it doesn't increase dB on your signal going into the amp, possibly making the amp "break up". That may have been the case when you tried ODs, compressors, etc... They were probably in front of the amp. Some amps are affected more then others when doing it that way.
