airguitargb 0 Posted November 10, 2013 Hi I used HD500 and connect to Blackstar HD60 stage using 4 cable method using electric guitar with no major issues but just about to start a new band project that will introduce more acoustic guitar. my question is can I use the POD as a DI box, if so how please or do I need to get a separate DI box. Guitar is Yamaha APX500. Thanks
Slooky 4 Posted November 11, 2013 Good question! I am not sure but would like to hear an answer too
jandrio 459 Posted November 11, 2013 Theoretically YES through the XLR outputs (or the 1/4" mono left output, depending upon the console available inputs), but bear in mind that the HD500 does not support true bypass. You may also need to build an acoustic patch.
billlorentzen 73 Posted November 11, 2013 It works fine as a DI, and sounds good on acoustics. I use it for my steel and nylon acoustics all the time. The EQs give a lot of options for both tone shaping of special purpose patches, and reducing the effects of current crappy acoustic pickups.
airguitargb 0 Posted November 11, 2013 Thanks guys So answer is yes works Asa DI box but I wonder if that is also while by electric and amp are all connect to the HD via 4 cable method. What I am trying to say is can I instantly change from my electric to acoustic without any unplugging and re plugin in cables? Hope that makes sense
jandrio 459 Posted November 11, 2013 This depends of the frequency response of your Blackstar HD60. From the HD500's side of view, the answer is yes, you can instantly change from my electric to acoustic without any unplugging and replugging in cables. But how is the Blackstar HD60.going to "service" the acoustic sounds? Search this forum and you can find acceptable solutions on this matter. http://line6.com/support/topic/3622-hd500x-jtv-hybrid-setup-is-this-possible/?do=findComment&comment=23899
ext1jdh 18 Posted November 11, 2013 I've used my HD500 as a DI. Simple no-effects patch. That said, if you drop in a parametric EQ and a little plate reverb it can sound pretty nice.
airguitargb 0 Posted November 11, 2013 Jandrio I don't plan to use the blackstar for acoustic. Planned signal chains are input 1 POD. Electric guitar connected to blackstar using 4 cable method Input 2 POD aux in then XLR out into desk Hope that works
jandrio 459 Posted November 11, 2013 Yes, this works. You must use a different patch for the acoustic guitar.
alexisltd 5 Posted November 11, 2013 To the OP check this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=stg_npwC3M4 i think this video may answer your question
njc235 2 Posted November 12, 2013 I used the HD500 in a live situation for the last year or so. I had my trusty Rg550 in 'guitar in' and my Washburn EA33S into 'Aux'. A special patch was created for the acoustic which was essentially dry dry dry, i just tweaked the EQ for the room. My output is to a pair of Mackie Thump 15s. I now have a JTV59p to compliment the setup ;)
