Hd500x Xlr To Jbl Powered Monitors = Low Volume

Just want to confirm that the XLR outputs on the HD500X are not line level and that is the reason my JBL Studio Monitors volume is low when using XLR connectors.

It seems from reading he posts this is  a correct assumption.

I have my Monitors set to max level, as well as the HD500X.

The solution seems to be to use the 1/4" outputs?

Or a mixer between the HD500X and the Monitors.

Thanks in advance

The XLR outs on the HD500X are not line level. They're mic level, meaning that you should treat the same way you would a Lo-Z output from a dynamic mic. You'd need a preamp to boost the signal before going to your monitors. The 1/4" outs can, however, be set to line level. You just need to hit the little switch next to the expression pedal from "amp" to "line". The 1/4" outs are unbalanced, though. So you kind of have to pick your poison.

In a small studio or onstage setup with relatively short cable runs, unbalanced connections work just fine — although you'll still probably want to use balanced connections for your mics. Most of the time there's no real need to use balanced connections for your POD. Where balanced lines shine is in situations with long cable runs, especially ones carrying low signal levels that are subject to noise or interference.

Like Charlie said, switch to the 1/4 outs at line level and you will really see the difference.  No need to add another gain stage and potential source of noise or problems into a simple setup when it is not required...
