No sound over SPDIF after startup

Hi. On stage I run guitar directly into the guitar input. Same on rehearsals. But at home studio I have a different setup where guitar is plugged in to the Fireface UCX instrument input so that I can grab the line for reamping with Mesa TC100 tube amp if I feel like it or reamp with different setup on HELIX. The signal digitized on the card and is passed through to the SPDIF inputs on the processor via SPDIF output on the card (goes through the chain and returns via SPDIF back to the card an in to DAW). This worked fine before the update to the latest firmware. Now with the new firmware there is a problem. After I start the processor there will be no sound after boot. I have to change the input on HELIX to "guitar" and then roll it back to SPDIF. After that all works fine. Is there a cure for this glitch? Thank you.

Yes I know I can run analog cables from the Fireface, however I have a lot of cables as it is (keyboards rig, bass, Godin setup etc) I would prefer to get SPDIF working without having to set it to analogue input and back to SPDIF again after I restart the unit. Fireface (the sound interface) works fine with other equipment, so I know it is not the problem on the Fireface end) DAW does not come in to the picture because I can monitor everything on Fireface without turning the workstation on.

Attached are two chains one for pure digital the other is for send/return through Mesa in both cases initial input is in to SPDIF from the card.

Thank you.

I'm on 2.81. Not sure about your problem specifically, but I've noticed something that seems related. I use the spdif output, and sometimes when I turn helix on, there is no output. Unplugging and plugging the spdif cable from helix or going into the global menu and toggling the digital output from spdif to aes/ebu and back gets output.
