Spider V Remote no internet access detected

Sorry, I'm seeing that on the picture I attached, there's a box un-ticked for "Unmatched requests pass through". I clicked all the 3 boxes, but then I started trying different things and I guess I forgot to tick that for the picture. But that was not the problem.

The unmatched request passthrough checkbox allows all other web request to leave your computer.

Please test something: With Fiddler CLOSED (or the Enable rules checkbox unticked) open a browser and go to

https://8.8.8.8/

Please be careful to type it in as shown above.

You should get something from Google:

404. That’s an error.

The requested URL / was not found on this server. That’s all we know.

We don't want to see this, so now OPEN Fiddler or check Enable Rules again. To make sure the new settings apply, please open another browser window and try to open https://8.8.8.8/ again.

You should now get a small text response, something like

This is a simple Fiddler-returned <B>HTML</B> page.

If this is the case, it is working as intended and Spider V Remote should work. However, if it is not the case, please go back to Fiddler, go to Options/Preferences on the top menu (I think it was somewhere under Tools). Now there should a new window with a tab called HTTPS. Open it and there ist the second (?) checkbox called something about Decrypt HTTPS traffic. Check it, accept any messages coming up regarding new certificates and close the window. Maybe i did that first to debug this issue and later on disabled it again, because it was not needed anymore, but it should work without it.

(Some technical  information regarding this: It will allow Fiddler to pretend to be any webserver you are accessing and decrypt data in order to inspect it. Afterwards, it will encrypt the data again and send it to the appropiate webserver. As this is "fiddling" with the encrypted connection and could lead to all sorts of warnings in the browser this is generally not expected to be done by normal users. Please avoid browsing to other webpages other than https://8.8.8.8/ while this option is enabled. This is why it's just a very temporary workaround)

Please go back to your browser, reload and check if you can see the small Fiddler HTML site.

If you can see it, Spider V Remote should work. If not, there seems to be another issue on your system.

PS: In your Test window you typed in http://8.8.8.8:443. This is not the correct URL to test for as we just change https://8.8.8.8/ and only this site.

It's working!!! :)

I had to install the certificate, because before that it didn't reach directly the text message on the 8.8.8.8

Now the Remote works perfect thanks to you GENIUS!!!

I'm going to record a video trying to explain this method for the rest of the people and hang it on the Facebook groups. I want to give you all the credits for this brilliant solution, can you tell me your name or you prefer to be called as jinxjinxsen?

Thank you once again for all your help, time and support to this community.

Let's see how long it takes to Line 6 to fix the problem, but for now I can continue to use my equipment without relying on their speed of response.

Have a great day jinxjinxsen! You have made mine :)

That's so great to hear it's working for you! This is really just a big hack, but for the time being one of the easiest user fixes.

Fiddler manipulates the secured HTTPS connection and uses a new encryption certificate for its communications. But it's not trusted yet, or rather the certification authority (who created the certificate, in this case some internal Fiddler authority) is unknown/untrusted. After going to Options and selecting Decrypt HTTPS traffic we are able to create, install and trust these general Fiddler certificates. After that you can disable this option again.

Thanks for taking the time to create a video. jinxjinxsen is fine, just tell them to create support tickets that link to this thread. :-) Be aware that, most likely, you need to delete the certificate first in order to show this step in your video.

Click on start, type in "certmgr.msc"  and run it with ENTER. After opening this administrative tool, navigate to "Trusted Root Certification Authorities / Certificates" and search for an entry called something like "DO_NOT_TRUST_FiddlerRoot" and delete it. Now you should be ready to go again.

Yeah, this fix did allow the Internet to Remote 2.00 -- it worked for me too.  Nice job, JinxJinxsen!

To get it working I also had to take the additional step to go to Fiddler "Options" and select "Decrypt HTTPS traffic" (install and trust these general Fiddler certificates)

NOTE TO OTHERS:   Fiddler must be open for Remote 2.00 to recognize the Internet connection

In all fairness, the "no Internet" issue is only a few weeks old ... and there is an excellent workaround/fix identified in this thread that restores all of the functionality.  So, to me, "wasted my money ... again" sounds a little extreme, but it is your money and your opinion.

I had problems with that last year. Maybe caused by other problems, maybe also Google changed some things back then (which is their good right, they can do whatever they want with their website). The Line 6 software is still unchanged. Who knows as there is no information on these issues. I moved to Android remote but this always bugged me.

The bug with missing Visual C++ 2013 dependencies has been reported at least in 2019.

How could you still sell these amps without updating the software? Software that has at least two major bugs right now that prevent people from using their newly bought product. This is unacceptable, it's been at least 7 months since some people figured out they have a problem with their installer. Not even a small text info next to the download button, nothing.

Sure, you can use Spider V Remote on Android, but one feature is the DAW connection. Do you want to switch cables between PC and phone all the time?

It's not a complete waste of money but I would think twice about buying something from Line6 again. Why they would not get involved in their community (and just have all these sticky information on top talking about community experts and stuff like that, but do not do something when important stuff is brought to their attention) is beyond my comprehension.

For me, I have been a Spider V 240HC user since early 2021.  Getting a new Windows machine that would not launch Remote 2.00 since being on 2.00 was traumatic for me.  I had to spend a bunch of time reading the many forum posts on this forum and elsewhere so that I could patchwork a workable solution together, along with taking the time to post a step-by-step solution thread in this forum to spread the word.  Additionally, I have taken the time to respond to other users' issues and questions to help them out as well as best I could.  Then comes this new "no Internet" issue.  Regardless of any past user issues, this suddenly became a user issue for me only a few weeks ago, and based upon the concurrent onslaught of threads on the topic, I assumed that many others (likely all others, I thought) were in this same "recent boat".  Thank God for your solution to that issue over the weekend which worked -- I could have survived without the Internet connectivity, but did not want to.  Additionally, I only intend in operating in a Windows environment operating with a DAW, too.  So, anything that compromises (or worse) that is purely unacceptable.  And I, myself, feel that I have dodged two significant speed bumps in my mere few months as a Spider V user.  That being said, right now, I am operating at 100% functionality, and I love what my Spider V 240HC does along with the FBV3/EX1 and G10T cordless.  So ... bottom line here, bro ... I violently agree with you.  And when is Line 6 going to recognize some of this and -- at least -- send you and I a t-shirt, or better yet a Variax to beta-test??  Even though I am catching up a bit, you are clearly way ahead of me; I just wish you were my next door neighbor, so I could badger you with countless "how are doing this ...?" questions; oh, you would hate me.  LOL

Hi @jinxjinxsen your solutions for no internet connection issue also worked for me!I Thank you GENIUS jinxjinxsen.

I had an issue which Spider Remote 2.0 failing to launch in the begging in April 2020. But I gave up that issue and used previous version Spider Remote for a while. Then I switched to another PC, the Spider Remote 2.0 worked somehow finally. And then I was facing the no internet connection issue a couple weeks ago. Now it was solved.

By the way, Line6 tech support is kind a slow. I have sent a customer complain message regarding the failing to launch issue to YAMAHA HEAD QUATOR in Japan. Yes, they replied to me with proper wording in timely manner. But that is it, nothing responds afterwards.

Thanks for the Fiddler Hack.

But LINE6 needs to fix the issue.

As the respond from google is changed you get the same trouble on every device on wich you are using Spider V Remote (for me Windows 10, MAC OS, IOS)

This SUCKS and it is realy not much work to change the little code inside the app..so LINE 6....what do you sayx: Does the customer pay for your Jobs?

I've patched "Spider V Remote.exe" executable few minutes ago to make it work without Fiddler. While Google's https://8.8.8.8/ no longer responds with 200 OK, Cloudflare's https://1.1.1.1/ still does and this allows to fix this issue very easily.

Use freeware Tiny Hexer (or any other hex file editor) and follow these steps:
- Make a backup copy of "Spider V Remote.exe"
- Make a working copy of "Spider V Remote.exe" to some folder where you don't need Administrator privileges (Documents, Desktop etc.)
- Open this working copy of "Spider V Remote.exe" file with Tiny Hexer
- Jump to 0x05E106 using Ctrl+G
- Carefully replace all four "8" with "1", don't touch any other characters

- See attached images for verification
- Save "Spider V Remote.exe"
- Replace original "Spider V Remote.exe" with your modified working copy

Now your Spider V Remote should use internet connection again.

Thanks jiridurdis, great find. I can confirm this works as well and is even better. After this manipulation no additional software is needed.

I used a different program (HxD, https://mh-nexus.de/de/) though but the general idea is the same.

Just be careful not to change anything else besides the 8s. Because of the new URL (https://1.1.1.1/) the manipulation does not even change the filesize of the executable and mess around with internal stuff. Nice!

For people without technical knowhow but a general trust in random internet people hacking some software and posting it on the vendors support forum::

I uploaded my Spider V Remote.exe file as a compressed ZIP file on Google Drive:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1_7UQ5OeyHMrC_qDbo5j57GKuqGmxxTVh/view?usp=sharing

Download and extract it (double click), copy the file to your Line 6 Spider V Remote folder (typically C:\Program Files (x86)\Line6\Spider V Remote), paste and replace the original file.

Start Spider V Remote as usual and enjoy your cloud services.

In my opinion the fastest way for regular users to create a workaround is with a proxy software like Telerik Fiddler. I will try to explain it with Telerik Fiddler Classic for Windows. I added a screenshot for Fiddler options.

DISCLAIMER: DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK! This will basically fake some content on https://8.8.8.8/ on your computer only for the runtime of the Telerik Fiddler software.

1. Download Telerik Fiddler Classic (it's free) for windows. https://www.telerik.com/download/fiddle

2. Start the software. Directly after starting all web requests (browser, apps, software, etc.) on your computer will be routed through this software (called a web proxy). This software is usually for networking/web debugging purposes. No information is made public.
Normal: Browser/Application <-> Webpage.
With Fidddler: Browser/Application <-> Fiddler <-> Webpage.

This is a great Workaround!

Can't believe we had to resort to changing the code! Well, thanks for also introducing me to a cool tool and for making my problem disappear, can't believe Line6 'devs' hardcoded an IP and it's not even theirs! I mean, could've tried pinging an URL maybe? Let the DNS decide? These are rookie mistakes.

Works fine. I did the hack. Took me back about 45 years to programming SBCs at Uni! I'd just got fed up with using my phone and came hunting to see if there was a way to redirect the test and here it was. Excellent!

Probably worth pointing out that by default TinyHexer is in Insert mode and you need to press Insert to flip to Overwrite.

Line6 - please just take the code out! No need for such a hacky test for Internet access depending on other company's servers maintaining a service.

Google changed their site again, https://8.8.8.8 will get you a 302 Moved status code, not just a 404 Error.

Funny thing: Spider V Remote seems to work again out of the box.

Support wrote that this was solved by a windows update but i highly doubt that. Its working again because Google changed their site to not return an error on this specific URL.

Encrypted:

image.png

Unencrypted:

1. Connect to https://8.8.8.8 -> Return code 302, site has moved to https://dns.google

2. Connection to https://dns.google -> Successful, Spider V Remote thinks it has a working internet connection

I have the same problem on my Dell XPS running Windows 11.  Spider Remote was working with Win 11 but now I'm getting the "no internet detected"  error message.  Any solution yet?

Yes, it has been fixed. If you still having problems I'll suggest you to check what message you get when you try to reach this web page: https://8.8.8.8  If you can't see a page like a Google search, then I suggest you to download the Spider.exe file that jinxjinxsen fixed for all of us, and swap it for the original one in the folder of the program. Check the thread of messages in this post.
