K1dr0b Posted November 1, 2019 Author Share Posted November 1, 2019 If I remember right the conversation promoting the new Spider V was like "yeah and we haven't forgotten the current Spider IV owners, and they can upgrade to the Spider V via firmware update." I did search YouTube but I can't remember where I saw it and its been some time ago. Anyway, I went ahead and bought a Spider V, so its a mute point now (no pun intended). I'll be running via the two XLR outs into a 3500 Watt RMS powered mixer into two 2x12 bi range cabs with a horn. Can't wait to make it loud. Think I'll jam with Ted Nugent on Wango Tango or Ricky Medlocke on Train Train. Then I'll slip into something more comfortable with Stevie Ray Vaughan's Riviera Paradise followed up with a taste of Rock n Roll by Led Zeppelin and Jumpin' Jack Flash by the Stones I was drowned, I was washed up and left for dead I fell down to my feet and I saw they bled , yeah yeah I frowned at the crumbs of a crust of bread Yeah, yeah, yeah I was crowned with a spike right through my head But its all right now In fact its a gas Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Jzng3030 Posted November 3, 2019 Share Posted November 3, 2019 I think you misheard. What he probably meant was that you can make your Line 6 Spider V into a Spider V Mark II. The last software update for the V essentially makes it a V mark II because it gives you a better tone and more options. I just updated my V today and it made a pretty big difference. It added a "classic" voicing option that makes the amp sound way cleaner and less muffled. It also added more presets and options. 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

This was when the Spider V first came out. How do I go about that? There isn't any way to upgrade from for IV to V. As Jzng3030 pointed out, the rep was probably talking about the recent Mk2 upgrade. All Spider V's can download the 2.0 firmware and have the new Mk2 features and presets. If your new Spider V isn't the Mk2 model or not running the 2.0 software, you can update for free using the Line 6 updater app available at line6.com/software - it is worth the upgrade. The "classic" variation really REALLY is a HUGE improvement on this amp for live gigging. I love this lil f*cker. I've already customized tones for ZZ Top's "La Grange" and Van Halen's "Eruption". Working on Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Sweet Home Alabama" now. I also got the wireless and the FBV3 Advanced Footswitch to go widit. SUPER HUGE BRILLIANT IDEA to have the wireless receiver built into the amp and be able to plug the transmitter right into the Amp to charge it. Whoever thunk of that at Line 6, give them a raise! My only complaints is you should have kept the "boost" switch from the older amps. I know I know there's workarounds but that was a step in the wrong direction (no pun intended). Also no send and return, so no using your favorite pedals in the signal chain. I also own the Boss Katana 100 and Peavey Vyper Pro. Both them are good amps too, but they have nowhere near the sims the Line 6 has. I guess my favorite though is the Boss GT 100 that I also own. It's VERY, VERY, VERY versatile for the gigging musician, but its also a floor unit and I'm NOT a fan of floor based effect processors, mainly because I have to run 25 feet of speaker cable TWICE (L & R) from the floor unit to the 350 Watt Rocktron Stereo Power Amp that I use to power the 2x12 Stereo Cabs. Its just a pain setting it up and tearing it down, which is why I'm a fan of amps that all the effects built into the amp. Simple to set up, simple to tear down, simple to use. I can take the Line 6 Spider V 120, walk in, and be ready to play in 5 minutes. What's more important, I can tear down and be gone in 5 minutes.
