60w Built-In Looper Effects

Hi,

This is a little hard to explain, so I'll try my best.

I have a Spider V 30w amp and a FBV3 foot controller. My version of the amp doesn't have the looper built in, so I use a looper pedal in front of the footswitch. This works fine, except that if I record an acoustic-sounding loop, and then want to switch to an overdriven tone to play over it, the loop also gets overdriven.

Question: Are the effects of the 60w Spider V's built in looper saved independently, so that you can switch and play over it with a new tone?

Thanks in advance,

John
