Helix asio driver uninstalls when helix is shut off?

So I've been testing recording a project with the Helix asio driver in Cubase elements with Helix connected via usb. When I shut off the helix when I was done, I couldn't hear what I had recorded anymore, Cubase said the audio hardware had been uninstalled and it gave me a choice of using a different asio driver (steinberg, which I normally use). I had Installed the Helix editor, which I understood to have installed the asio driver to my pc. Is this correct behavior? Does the helix need to be turned on and plugged in to the pc to be able to use the helix asio driver?

Thanks for any replies...

Yes, the ASIO driver is the driver for the Helix hardware. It won’t do anything if you have the Helix turned off. HX Edit is simply an editor. It had no audio functionality.

I mean, you can select a different interface to playback and mix in Cubase if you want, but the way you’re describing it, it doesn’t sound like you have one.

Ok, thanks for the response, it is much appreciated. As you mentioned I found I could select my other asio driver (steinberg) after shutting off helix and playback occurs normally then. I was worried for a bit there that I would have to have the unit plugged in and on all the time when I created projects using the helix asio driver.

Cheers!
