I dont think it sounds anything like an 800. Also, I like to put an OD in front of real 800s and no matter what OD I use on the Helix, its not good. They're by far my most used models for anything in the ballpark of typical rock riff/lead sounds. And I think they work extremely well with almost every drive pedal. Personally, I don't care whether they sound like an original JCM 800, even if I owned one for a good while (don't exactly remember how similar - or not similar, for the matter - it was), I just like them a lot. I've never had that pleasure, nor do I have your ears. Played through my PC112+ and FRFR112 with a good IR it sounds great and I use it a lot. Recorded, it sounds like the kind of R'n'R that people I like make with Marshalls. To me. Of course, I always thought that Jimmy Page used a Marshall in the studio, so what do I know? I like Setting the amp at 5.0 and drive at 4.0, then I live Channel vol at what it is and everything else stock, then I pop A TS-9 Modal with settings set like: 0, 10, 10.
