So... what now? (Post-3.00 updates)

I know, I know. The poly update just arrived and we have to enjoy it, and the next update will take long, etc.

But anyway, I wonder what new stuff could come in the future. As in "has anything been mentioned by the devs anywhere already?".

To me, v3.00 has brought so many cool new features that I doubt I'll be as impressed with next updates. The poly effects and the favorites system are already a big improvement. I think future stuff will be more about new amp models and new pedal clones, rather than me capabilities. Although I would die for a poly tuner before they stop development for current Helix family XD

I would love a velcro fuzz like the Shin ei companion or the Sasori one from SolidGoldFX.

Wrong forum. This is where you go if you're serious about suggestions for changes and improvements:

Before posting a new idea, please search to see if it's already been proposed. If 100 people vote on the same idea presented 20 different ways, it looks like only 5 people care about it!

Also, post your ideas one at a time. I for one NEVER vote for multple combined suggestions.

No worries. I already submitted the request (and some others) to ideascale a few months ago ;-)

They said they wanted to use the new poly engine to make some new reverbs that they really wanted to get into 3.0, but didn't make it - paraphrasing. So it feels like a safe bet that 3.1 might have some new reverbs.

Seems a bit early to start asking for new features but why let that stop me. My main feature requests right now are:

  1. Improved setlist management with search and the ability to create setlists with virtual pointers to the presets instead of having to copy presets to multiple setlists.
  2. Add more IR slots. Perfectly willing to give up a couple of setlists if necessary if that memory could be used for additional IRs instead. Make it optional so the user can select to have the current default of eight setlists or choose to swap them out for additional IRs instead. Have not done it in a while but I compared the backups for presets and IRs a while back and they created files of roughly the same size. If you add the setlist functionality as described in #1 many users might have less need for 1,024 preset slots anyway making it a no-brainer to dedicate some of that memory to IRs. For all I know there is enough memory on board to provide more room for IRs without the setlist/IR swap. For users with a lot of IRs the ability to store more of them on the Helix would be most welcome.
  3. More guitar synth options

So here is what would excite me: Dear poly, post Digitech super mega pitch shifting magic new code "new" Line 6 Dev people ("new" is in scare quotes because I think you've been working on this for a couple of hear now, right? Kudos on massively oveedeliveling early season gifts!).

Ways to take poly further:

  1. Give us what EHX won't: something with the flexibility of the H.O.G., with more natural sound quality and able to ape the 9 series' various keyboard emulators. Snapshots can be created using existing blocks for Leslie's, LFOs, keyboard click etc to round out the sound. Let us channel our inner Bill Ruppert (qualified genius, hire him already!)
  2. Further development in this area will make Helix a go to for synth for experimental players beyond the guitar, blues mastery stereotypes*
  3. Just imagine all the awful "fire your keyboard/bass player" memes this would unleash... Errm... like 2020 is the best year in recent history to make fun of musicians losing their jobs. Oh dear....

* No offence to the blues or those on the legal profession... But I wonder... are blues lawyers capable of Helixing without fear of being hexed by the blues lawyer's high court of analogue chastity?

i wonder if helix would be able to convert the guitar signal to midi now that it has polyphonic pitch shifting (does it mean that it also has chord recognition? Similar to how midi guitar works on computer and ios).. then you could have guitar synth with the onboard oscillators or midi out to hardware.. It might be something for down the track

This is what I heard as well. I had some info that they had the Strymon Big Sky and Blue Sky on the benches working on the verbs. I thought they would be out in 3.0, but maybe you are right that they had to get the Polys done and then put that in with the verbs.

At this point, the only thing L6 could add to keep people busy more than few days, before asking for more, is adding free Pornhub access from the Helix display.

I just like when they add new models. It's fun to hear what these amps (that I will probably never be able to play with in real life) sound like. Then, after a couple days, the shininess usually wears off and I go back to the Freidman or the Litigator or the Epic.

I will say, however,  that the second Rev model they released in v2.9 (can't remember if Red or Purple) has pretty much replaced my Badonk when I want that type of distortion.

I'm hoping for poly versions of the legacy guitar synth effects.  That would be the bomb.

Also, more amp models are always welcome.  Now that we finally have a Diezel model, maybe we could dive into some of the well known "boutique" amp families like the Rivera and VH4/Fryette ones, as well as the still missing Fender Super Reverb or old Laney models.  Of course, that all depends on what amplifiers the team has access to......

While there are far fewer amp models this time around than I was hoping for, overall this has been a surprisingly significant update, for those of us who didn't want to have to spend additional money on the Song Remains the Same SG doubleneck, an acoustic-electric, or a 7 string guitar.

I know - I keep chasing around all your cross posts. I understand your frustration with your current situation, but cross posting becomes rather confusing.

In one post you asked  how to raise a ticket and I supplied that information, but I have no idea if you actually followed up on it

Other than your posts, I have not seen any mention of problems with the jog wheel on the Rack unit caused by the new firmware. There was a spate of dry solder joints that happened with some of the early Floor units (happened to me), and various things about when the functionality of the joystick changed in an earlier firmware revision. Since then, nada, zip, zilch, zero.

I noted that you said you Rack worked just fine until the v.3 update, therefore unless this is a catastrophic failure of the jog wheel, I would suggest that you try a re-install of the firmware, taking special note of the process for updating the Rack unit. Also, it might be worth doing a factory reset on your hardware.

Here are the reset options:

Helix Rack

Since the rack doesn’t have footswitches, you’ll instead hold down a combination of the 6 encoders that are below the main LCD screen as you’re booting up.

Button Combination

Description

ENC2 & ENC3

Reset globals

ENC3 & ENC4

Restore stock presets and setlists

ENC4 & ENC5

Restore stock presets, setlists, and IRs

ENC5 & ENC6

Reset globals and restore presets, setlists, and IRs (entire factory restore)

ENC1 & ENC3

Rebuild all presets

ENC1 & ENC5

Clear all presets, setlists, and IRs

ENC1 & ENC6

Will enter Update Mode (This feature is only available on firmware v1.06.5 and higher)

Re: your comment about moderators- see the second black banner at the top of these forum pages:

”Why is Line 6 not responding???”

Hope this helps/makes sense.

Installation instructions - please note Rack model:

Posting the same thing multiple times doesn't guarantee a faster answer... in fact, you're probably shooting yourself in foot. Most people don't read every thread, and even for those who do it's human nature to start ignoring the same thing when it's repeated ad nauseum.

And you won't... it's a user forum not frequented by anyone "official".

Here's the good, the bad, and the ugly...a factory reset, and/or reinstalling the firmware (perhaps to a previous version if you really want to rule out 3.0 as the cause of your current woes) is basically your only recourse for dealing with sudden unexplained malfunctions. If neither  fixes the problem, then it's service ticket time. There's really nothing else you can do.
