Standard is a different and updated set of models and a different and updated Workbench HD application. So it will sound different. Whether one is better over the other would be more to do with your needs and what kind of sound you are looking for. Having a 300 and 700 electric, plus six JTV's myself, I like the sound of the older Variax and the JTV's for different reasons, depending on what it is I'm trying to do for a given song. The old and new are different, I like their sounds. Would hate to choose only one. --- And BTW, I'm a tech at Line 6 that services these.
