Can midi to USB cable replace the usb connection?

Hi, in my town a guy is solding a pod hd500 with broken usb. I have a usb to midi cable. Can I use line6 software by this simple solution, can midi to USB cable replace the usb connection? So I can download pathces and recording on my software playing on  backing tracks? Thanks a lot

MIDI to USB cable provides ability to send (only) MIDI info to your PC.

HD's USB to USB connection sends a lot more than just MIDI. So NO, it won't work the way you think it will.

 

If you don't have soldering skills or a friend that could help with it, so you could repair it by soldering in new USB connector, then wait a bit for a fully functional HD500 unit on used market.

Be aware that in many (most?) cases repairing a broken USB connection on a POD HD500 also requires replacing an internal circuit board. Fixing the USB port itself usually won’t fix the problem.
