USB devices? If so then it probably is not necessary but still not a bad idea. Disconnecting a device this way can help Windows keep track of which USB devices have been removed. In some cases that assists Windows in detecting when the device, e.g. your Stomp is plugged back in again. I turn my Helix off all the time while the editor is open and it does not seem to cause any issues. I save my preset first of course if I am editing. Nonetheless, the proper procedure is doubtless to close the editor before turning off or disconnecting the device.
