ddufour
Can you use the Spider editing software without a FVB Shortboard?
silverhead
I’m not a Spider owner but I don’t see why not. Download it and try. Bad advice. Sorry. I didn’t realize the amp has no USB.
ddufour
Not home to look at the amp but I don't know if there is a usb plug in the back or just a cat5 connection.
psarkissian
Just a CAT5, RJ45 modular jack. Didn't start using USB until the Spider V.
fflbrgst
To be clear, do not plug the amp directly into your computer using a (what seems to be compatible) ethernet cable! To load patches to the Spider IV (and also to update the firmware in the amp), you need an FBV MkII pedal.
ddufour
I just purchased a shortboard. Works fine changing patches, volume, wah, but when I plug in the usb and start the editing software the fvb does nothing. The software says I'm connected, but all it does is display some cc values. fflbrgst
To be clear, the FBV (must be MkII) is plugged into the computer via USB, and the amp to the FBV via the Cat5 cable right? The FBV just acts like an interface for the computer to talk to the amp.
ddufour
All connections are correct.
fflbrgst
Well, the FBV would not 'do anything' when you are using Spider Edit software. You create/edit/save patches in Spider Edit, then move them into the amp's User Patch locations.
Sison9357
When you set the FBV parameter to Vol=Glid, you'll have no volume control via the pedal, since it will be controlling Pitch Glide. MyCardStatement
