1/4" outputs to aux in - line or instrument?

For now I'm running my Helix into the "aux in" of my Boss Katana Air.  

 

Do I set the 1/4" outputs to "line" or leave them as instrument?  I've found conflicting information on this at various other places, so thought I would come here to get a definitive answer.

Set the Helix Outputs you are using to Line.

 

The Aux In of your Boss Katana Air is very likely expecting a line level signal, rather than an instrument level signal.

probably does not matter too much....it's most likely 1:1, high impedance buffer like the LS2...I've hit them with both ways...Line is usually better when available as you tend to get a lower noise floor....An LS-2 has a trim to match up to instrument...not sure what that thing has, but Boss does buffers pretty well...try both, pick the best sounding one...most likely Line Level.

Well I tried it this morning.  

 

The instrument level is lower than when I select line level.

 

I tried going headphones out into the aux in, and selecting line level and instrument level made no difference.

Line and Level output selections do not directly affect the headphones level output.

Like all questions of this nature, do some reading.  

Find out what for certain your Katana wants to see at the Aux Input and set it to that.

You could have gone to Boss and checked out the spec for the correct answer.

 

Katana Air Aux In is specified as -10dBu on a stereo mini jack.

 

Also, using headphones out is just wrong.
