Variax no longer seems to be recognised by Helix

Recommended Posts

I have a JTV 89 and a Helix floor.

I used them both at a gig the other night with no issues.

Tonight I upgraded the Helix from 3.10 to 3.11 and now the Variax knobs don't light up anymore when connected to the Helix.

When I connect the Variax via VDI to the Helix, Workbench HD can see the Helix. It's just that the Variax won't light up or enable me to use any Variax functions with the Helix. I still get sound from the mags.

Has anyone had anything similar happen?

Any ideas?

Did you update the Helix while the 89 was still plugged in with the VDI cable?

If so, connect the 89 to the computer using the Line 6 Variax interface device and cable,

bring up Workbench and save any patches you want to keep, then re-Flash the Firmware.

Hi Partev,

I've now got hold of a USB device.

When I plug it in, I get a stable green light on the USB end of the device and flashing red light on the ethernet end.

I don't have a battery for this guitar - it was bought second hand.

When I read the instructions for flashing the firmware on the Variax, it says I need a battery in the guitar but other users have told me I don't need this.

Can you clarify please?

Are there any other steps I can take or do you think it needs to go in for a service?

Thanks.

You are going to need these.

You need to be careful about the battery you get. This one was on the Line 6 area of Amazon so it should be good. There are others that have the same dimensions and specs but, it's my understanding that there is a proprietary chip in the "official" Line 6 battery that regulates some things so all batteries are not equal. Good luck!
