Using a Y splitter/combiner to switch amp channels

Hi all,

Searched the forum but couldn't find a direct answer.

I have an ENGL Fireball 25 which accepts a footswitch with a stereo cable to switch channels and volume boost. As per the Amp documentation:

Quote

Tip: switching between the Clean and the Lead channels.
Ring: switching Master Volume Boost on and off.

Now hear me out. What if I connect the ENGL footswitch (https://www.engl-amps.com/z4) to a stereo Y splitter/combiner (https://www.loopipedals.com.au/product/y-splitter-combiner-stereo/) with one side going into the EXP2 of the POD Go and the other side going to the ENGL's footswitch input. In my mind this seems to allow be to enable a patch/snapshot in the POD go and at the same time change the channel in the amp.

But there's a really high probability I'm completely wrong! So thought I'd ask before blowing everything up in my house :)

You don't have a way to assign a patch/snapshot to a footswitch on the POD Go. The best you could do would be assigning a pedal/amp parameter change combination to it (usually it's the bypass, but it can be other things - so maybe it could be almost as powerful as a snapshot, but likely with limitations - I don't know how many parameters you can assign to a footswitch, and I'm not even 100% sure if you can assign multiple parameter changes at the same time - you can for the block bypass parameter, but I never tried other parameters).

Then, there's the matter if the ENGL footswitch is compatible with what the POD Go expects from the FS7/8 - but I actually can't help you there, as I'm still trying to understand which footswitches work and which don't.

EDIT: in either case, there shouldn't be the risk of blowing anything. It might just not work as you want it to. So, if you already have the footswitch and splitter, I'd say try it; but if you don't, and don't want to risk buying stuff which might not serve the purpose you want them to, maybe hold off until you have a clearer picture of what you can do with them.

For FS7/8  you need momentary, non latching footswitches. I use 2 x Bespeco VM20 footswitches that slot together. Just like the Boss footswitches but way cheaper. You'll need a Y cable, stereo TRS at the single end, and 2x mono ... one tip, one sleeve ( they'll typically be coloured one red, one black)
