LT degrades tone via 4CM

I wanted to try my LT via 4CM into my amp, as a “pedal board” for effects only.  I found that when hooked up it made things sound different, particularly in the gain channel of the amp (Bad Cat Hot Cat 15).  It was as if there was less gain/distortion in this channel, and the sound/tone was just missing “something”.  As soon as I plugged my traditional pedal rig, via 4cm, back into the amplifier, everything was there once again in terms of sound.

I experimented with line level output vs instrument level output in Global settings, the overall volume output (via the big physical knob), as well as the level of the Send and Return blocks within the patch.  Is there another parameter that I’m overlooking here?  The best way to describe what it’s doing to my sound is that it’s giving me less distortion/gain…as if I’ve rolled my guitar’s volume knob from 10 down to 6, yet there's no volume drop.  It’s almost like it’s made my amp’s gain channel more “polite”.

My traditional rig does not do this, all the tonal goodness is there, and it is hooked up via 4CM as well.  The LT, not so much.

Make sure you are not allowing any signal to bypass the Helix loop (send/return)... which would result in some signal bypassing the amps front end, therefore giving a "cleaner" signal.

It is critical to match the I/O level of each connection between the amp and the Helix. When they are not matched, unpredictable results may occur.

  1. Helix SEND to Amp Input... the Helix send should be instrument level
  2. Amp SEND to Helix Return... the Helix return should be LINE level
  3. Helix Output to Amp Return... the Helix Output should be set to LINE level, and the big volume should be FULL or disconnected from the 1/4" outs. (assuming you are using the 1/4" outs).

NOTE: The Amps manual and some online discussions suggest your amp uses a LINE LEVEL loop, which is why I am making the suggestions I am. IF the AMP uses instrument level loop, change step 2 & 3 to "instrument level".

I must have missed the fact that one can specify Line or Instrument settings for the Send and Returns of the LT.  Same w/being able to disable the big volume knob.  Will try these suggestions when i get out of work, thanks.
