Complete Helix newbie

So besides only being an average player, I decided to treat myself to the Stomp XL.  I've had 7 other pedals over the many years and most recently started using the Moeer 200.....nice but even with tweaking, it just wasn't 100% for me.
I do have a small Helix learning curve and have watched likely every video on youtube/fakebook about it.  It has helped me get started.

However, I'm thinking of cheating a bit and getting some presets and am asking for recommendations for the best downloads for the XL.

Thanks for your thoughts!

Several names that pop up frequently are

Freeman

Glenn Delaune

Worship Tutorials. They have some free patches.

Know that generally, they all need IR's that are included, i.e. they don't use the Helix's cabs. They may have alternative patches that use them but generally the former is true. Not alwys though.

Some free patches here. I never heard of them before.

I understand the wanting to get presets to learn. However in my experience, nothing really sounded good.  They were very helpful in just showing how others did things, but for me, it was way more helpful to create my own. I started by mimicking Jason sadites basic template for a great tone.  Good luck, I've spent way too many hours tweaking and learning, but for me it was a blast!

That's likely going to leave you feeling a little disappointed.

I agree with @PaulTBaker.... look up Jason Sadites videos on You Tube, then be prepared to put in many hours. It's a worthwhile journey.

To be honest.... this is less about learning the gear, and more about learning how to create a good tone.... that is something that takes time... and it's also a moving target. Once you experience good tone you can begin to coax it out of any "decent" gear under any situation.

I can't tell you how many times I have seen a demo video only to read comments like "yeah, but that guy can make anything sound good"?  The reality is... "that guy" is proving the gear is rarely the limitation - it's the knowledge and understanding of the user approaching it that is shining through.
