Headphone Jack Also Line Out?

I am interested in buying this amp but my only hesitation is I use a presonus to record and given  the times I like to record  I need to go direct out the amp into my ¼ Mic1 input to the presonus. My current Line 6 has  Phone/direct/output. Does the headphone jack also work as a line out?

Yes is does work doubly as a direct our for recording or live use. Keep in mind it will only carry over your guitar signal, any audio coming from the bluetooth streaming will not be included in the signal.

The tones are in the amp and has nothing to do with the Bluetooth streaming (except for editing parameters with an iOS7 device).

You can stream music from a Bluetooth device to play along with.

Only the guitar is routed to the headphone out, not any music you are streaming to the AMPLIFi.

Actually that's not true. I used my Amplifi last night at a show, and ran a line from the headphone out to the PA. During our break, I was playing songs from my iPhone, to the Amplifi via Bluetooth, and the songs were playing thru the PA. Handy feature!

I just wish there was an option to have the speaker on or off when using this output, instead of it bypassing the speaker entirely. Would be nice for playing on stage for some stage volume and a line out send to the PA.

Thanks for the info!!

I know with the AMPLIFi FX100, if you connect a cable to the AMP it disables the Bluetooth stream to the headphones (and main outs) as joebutterfield described.

That should be an easy mod to  do.  You could even add a switch  on the back that selects speaker on or off when a plug is inserted into the headphone jack.

And take that switch mod a step further to select a speaker input jack to use the Amplifi as an extension cabinet to an amp.  It's on Idea Scale.

I wonder if they could add a feature like that in an update and add an option to the app that would allow us to enable or disable the internal speakers it would be great for a monitor out if that were the case.

I did this modification - installing a stereo jack in parallel to the headphone out - so that I could route the signal to a keyboard amp without disconnecting the Amplifi speakers and have both amps on. It works for music played via Bluetooth or the aux in but for some reason the guitar signal doesn't go through. I suspect that when the headphone jack is used it not only disconnects the speakers but it also re-configures the output circuitry to include the guitar in the mix. I may explore the circuit some more but for now I think there's probably no way around that. Just in case anyone is wondering, the internal guitar speaker in the Amplifi 75 is a 15W 4 ohms "custom designed" speaker.

Please keep us up to date on what you find. Not having an output to the PA is a major oversight on this product for me. There may also be a way to achieve this mod by taking a feed from the speaker through a resistor network, but as there is more than one speaker this may also be not that straight forward. I would have a look myself but mine has to go back to Line 6 because noise it makes when an FBV Express is connected. It's all very frustrating and the Line 6 service centre is over an hours drive for me. What hacks me off is I run an electronics manufacturing company, I could do all this work myself if I just had a schematic!

I looked into it a little bit more and I don't see a way out. I'm guessing that when a cable is plugged into the headphone out the Amplifi uses a different simulation set and then mixes all the signals - guitar, Aux in and Bluetooth - into something suitable for line out purposes. So, using the headphone out, all signals can be sent to a PA but the Amplifi speakers will of course be off.

Connecting a jack in parallel to the headphone out like I did and using this jack as a line out will keep the Amplifi speakers on and will allow the Bluetooth and the Aux signal to be sent to a PA with good results. As for the guitar signal, it's kinda weird. If you use only an amp and cab simulation you won't get the guitar signal. However, if you add something like a delay, chorus or reverb module in the chain, you will get a guitar signal to come out of the parallel jack but as far as I can tell you get only that portion of the signal and not the whole guitar signal. And it sounds absolutely awful if you feed that signal to something like a keyboard amp and play along with the Amplifi. It's like the two signals are out of phase or something. I double checked the jack connections and the two are indeed in parallel and not crossed. So I'm stumped for now. Again, I'm guessing that Line 6 didn't include a separate line out because this might overwhelm the Amplifi DSP.

I guess what you are hearing is the stereo effects without the straight guitar signal. The stereo would probably be created by phase inversion or filtering hence why it sounds weird. So some summing is going on when a jack is inserted into the headphone socket, that's probably the end of that then. Can't believe to get the Amplifi into a PA with the speakers on it has to be mic'd and how do you mic a 5 speaker full range amp? Oh dear.......

Any update for this subject ? Is there a solution existing today?

I think the solution is you should have purchased the Firehawk FX or Firehawk 1500. These have incredible output choices and will do all of the above without any 3rd party mods and more!! Just sayin'
