How to update Firmware (or even just determine which version is installed)

I've got a JTV-59, and a Mac running OS X Catalina.  Monkey, of course, doesn't work with Catalina.  So how is it we update or check the firmware on the Variax?

 

I should note that I have no problems with Workbench HD or my Helix floor, and I do have the VDI cable and USB connector.

 

So how do I update the firmware?

Workbench HD should give you the firmware version of your JTV Variax. If I remember right, you can't update via the Helix, you have to have the USB Variax interface. If you don't have one, this is what you need.

You also need a Variax battery and in order to engage the battery, you need to have a 1/4" plugged into the Variax. This video is pretty good at running through everything you need to do. I am not sure about any Mac issues there may be. I have a PC.

They added the capability to access Workbench through Helix a few updates ago. VDI cable and Helix and you are good to go.

Joining in on this 14-month old post to see if this is possible with an M1 Mac and POD HD500 somehow. 

I can download the firmware vxf file, but have no program that can update my JTV-59 with it.

(I guess I could borrow a Windows PC.)
