Dumb question about HX Stomp outputs

Mono into two outs = dual mono so yes.

Keep in mind that you want a consistent level to FOH. The Volume knob on the HXS will affect BOTH outs and controlling your stage level from the back of a powered monitor is a PITA. A better idea is to place a SEND at the end of your chain with SEND and DRY THRU parameter both set to 0db (UNITY). Run the send into a DI for FOH. This way the Volume knob controls your STAGE level and FOH gets a consistent signal. Consistent, that is, to the extent that you've levelled all of your presets up to the Output Block!

IOW - the SEND needs to see the same level between presets at the LOUDEST (lead tone, all boosts, ODs etc engaged and hitting the strings as hard as you ever do). You can route the SEND to an external AI and use the meters or a LUFS app in the DAW or do it by ear using your powered monitor from the SEND instead of the Main Outs.

Thanks @rd2rk however, I'm already using the send/return sockets to insert a Boss SY-200 in the loop.

Does that mean I'm scuppered and have to use the main outs ( being

mindful of the fact that the volume dial will affect both)

Another thought that has just occurred would be to use a volume pedal between the HX Stomp and the monitor - any reason that wouldn't work?

A volume pedal would work just fine.

Another thing that MIGHT be useful depending on how you think in conjunction with a volume pedal is to go into the Stomp's global settings and disable the volume knob for the outputs. You can change this so that it only controls the headphone out instead of the main outs so that you don't accidentally futz up the FOH volume.

Edit: Another creative idea I've seen people do is utilize the headphone output to run their monitors. Some experimenting will probably be in order, but where you're running mono only it should be doable, and this way you could use the volume knob to control the level on your monitor, while FOH gets the main out at a steady level. Try it, it's worked great for some.

That can work. Also try @Kilrahi's suggestion about using the HP out with the global setting for "Volume Controls" set to Phones.
