Ifeelfine
Using the TonePort KB37 keyboard: How do I get a particular keyboard-sound, that matches a recording I've heard ?I've used Live 5.2.2, and found something similar but its not as good as I would like it. So is there a way to create the exact midi sound that I want ? Thanks
brue58ski
The KB37 is merely a controller. It does not in and of itself, create sound. The sound comes from whatever program you're using on your computer. the KB37 just plays (controls) the sound the program makes. So you need to create the sound on your computer and not from the KB37. It can't. Does this make sense? You can also hook it up to sound modules and control them but I believe you're talking about having it hooked up to your computer.
Triryche
+1 to brue58ski MIDI has no sound, it is all numerical data. Typically for keyboards it will indicate, what ket is pressed, the velocity, when it is released, ect... That data is then rendered into sound via sound modules/software. Ifeelfine
Thanks, brue58ski & Triryche. That's what I thought, so I used one of the supplied 'simpler' midi-sounds available in Live 5.2.2, but that's not exactly how I want it. So how do I create the sound I want ? Copyright allowing, can I sample an original recording ? ...if so, how do I make the sample, ie, in what format/file type ? Then what do I do with that sample, ie, how do I get the Toneport to use it ? ...if I need to add it to say 'Live 5.2.2' then how ? Many thanks
TheRealZap
sounds like a simple question... but it's not really.... it's primarily a question for the ableton people, as its a function of the software and not the kb37 what you want to do can be done... it's in fact commonly done for drum sounds etc. i can't think of the name (impulse maybe) but if you use the built in sampling you can sample and tweak sounds to your hearts content. in my experience the ableton tutorials are great! have you checked the ableton site?, if you're registered you can probably get an updated version of the software... I think i started with version 5 or 6, registered with them, and i can freely download version 8 (i have the lite version, won't let me go to version 9) that may make finding tutorials easier, although i don't think much has changed in this respect. also youtube has tons of great ableton tutorials. here's one i found quickly: Thanks, brue58ski & Triryche. Triryche
Did your KB37 should come with Reason Limited? There should be some decent virtual instruments included. But I have no personal experience with Reason. I would suggest goggling virtual instruments and sound modules, it may seem overwhelming at first, but you will learn much. The are so many choices ranging from free to thousands of dollars.
Ifeelfine
Hi Triryche, No I don't have Reason, it wasn't supplied with the KB37. Thanks
