When will we see the next M20d firmware/software update?

Recommended Posts

Greetings Line6,

Can anyone at Line6 give us an idea as to when to expect the next firmware/software update for the M20d?  It would be nice to see some enhancements, fixes, and perhaps some new effects and presets.

I would guess their likely response would be "in the future". No one likes putting even a rough idea on something like that. Cause we will constantly hound them when said date is approaching.

"We are working on it, and there will be one" is another likely response.

My humble opinion, as a Dreamscape system owner since 2012.

Looks like the death nail for the Dreamscape line, occurred when Yamaha bought out Line 6.  Yamaha has their own PA products, they didn't need the trouble.  They probably also had some idea, that the poor design of the M20d would eventually start causing many of the problems that we are seeing now, like intermittent sound, level changes, trim problems.  People getting shocked due to grounding issues. (the above issues taken from posts on this forum).  Better to let the products fade into obscurity, than to prolong it's life with a firmware update.

Users have been adding feature requests for the M20d for 5 or 6 years.  Not one was ever implemented.  The android app never materialized. Of course, they'll say that it was never promised.

The dreamscape products could have been a great line, but I'm afraid, their days have come and gone.  The rest of the life cycle appears that it will be repair work, and eventually, the dark recesses of basements and attics, or the trash heap.

Having spoken with a guy from Andertons, he reckons that they have bought the last of the M20ds destined for the UK and when they're gone, they're gone! At £699.00 they're probably selling at less than their trade cost when first introduced. Shame as was a great product, badly assembled, but easy to use. I think Line 6 will discontinue the speakers too as the Line 6 link is the big draw there, and if there's no mixer to use it with, there's plenty of good stuff out there at a lot less money. Don't know why they didn't licence that out to others! Just got a TF1 so once I get my head around it I'm afraid the M20 will be destined for the attic!! Sadly second hand obsolete electronics have no value nowadays.

You might get £250 or more from ebay for it. The attic is not a good place - it won't accumulate in value like an antique.

I expect that there are still a few buyers out there whether looking for a backup or a way of extending the inputs and outputs - there is a thread here somewhere about using 2 * M20d together as a 32 channel mixer and for a low price I might consider doing that.

Yeah you're right about the attic. I was using it as a metaphor. It'll get put back in the box and in the cupboard in the studio. I did once have a result when I held on to a Great British Spring reverb unit which I bought in '86 for £99. Sold it on eBay a couple of years back for £190 and the guy still uses it today on work for one of the computer music type mags.

my M20 is 3 years old and has spent its life rack mounted in a Boschma case. The case cost £180 and the mixer over a grand so you see what I mean about no value in used equipment! Have seen a few on eBay and they didn't get bids!!

The Yamaha has a lot of similar looking visuals to the M20 but I think they missed a trick not adding the L6 link. There are a lot more powerful smaller, lighter format speakers out there that perform as well if not better than the Stagescape stuff. I'm going to see how the Yamaha sounds with my Line 6 stuff, but dragging up to 4 subs, 4 Lt3s and 2 Lt2s around with no "added value" seems a bit crazy! I'm not getting any younger and the stuff doesn't get any lighter!!

I got lucky once too... very rare for it to happen though.

In my much younger days I spotted a Fuzz Face style pedal at a jumble sale and bought it for £20.. tried using it with my Marshall JCM900 combo and it didn't do anything that I could use so I put it in the "attic" and forgot it was there. When my purchase of Helx was being rationalised and my wife was going on about all the unused junk laying around all of the saleable stuff got put on ebay or local music store... and I found this pedal again.

This time we had the internet so I tried to find it: made by Arbiter England, Treble Plus Bass written over 3 knobs and that was all I had to go on. Virtually nothing to be found at all. I turns out that is a very limited production run from late 60s treble boost that works wonderfully with amps from that generation, but not with high gain JCM900 patches. So vintage pedal from a "name" and very rare.

Sold it via a specialist auction house and got nearly £300 after commission. Best £20 purchase I ever made.

Used my M20d just last night for doing some recording - which it did very nicely with drummer in one room, bass in another and each getting a personal mix via monitors. Shame about the dreadful latency though - that is the one thing I wish they would fix as using an M20d as a studio interface would be a nice option. As it is I only use it this way when I need to record multiple tracks together.

Farewell to the stagescape.

Chanels also fell out with me. With all the information from this site how that can be solved, I finally sent my stagescape to the company where I bought it in the Netherlands. even though the device was out of warranty for one month, the return was resounding, after which I made the internship and got it back in my possession without any repair costs. I then swapped the internship directly. I bought a QSC 16 touch mix. I have no confidence in the stagescape anymore. The failure of channels can return again. I was very happy with the stagescape. The concept is perfect and I have put a lot of time to get to know the device. As line6 and yamaha have not proved reliable in their support, I have unfortunately said goodbye. Outrageous that no updates came, although that was promised. The concept of the stagescape was perfect. Not the follow-up. We are tempted to pay a lot of money, which was not rewarded with good support and updates. I'm sorry.

Users of the stagescape I wish good luck.

greeting Henk

The Netherlands

Very sad to see that a product that had so much potential was just dropped like that. I have a M20D and love it but it is very disappointing to know that I paid so much for the unit and the company chose not to continue with the updates to make the product better. I really wish that line 6 would reconsider this decision and come out with an update for the mixer to include some new additional effects

I bought a line 6 m20d with great hope that I would have something real and nice and having in mind the year of release 2012 I was hoping it was going with the update time but after reading the comments I'm crushed so much money to something that died ... let we ask competent engineers to do at least one more update and rejoice all the thirsty owners of this so small yet powerful and cute m20d give him more life he deserves please !!!

Does your M20d still work as advertised, and as it did when you bought it? If so it hasn't died. Another update is highly unlikely. It still does what it was designed to do, and what you paid for it to do. You can choose to be disappointed with that if you wish. I'm not at all disappointed with mine - still doing everything I bought it for several years ago.
