MiguelMarquez
Also, as I mentioned previously, do not use a USB 3 port. I also noticed from a couple of your screencaps, that the ESN is not coming up. I'm wondering if there is a problem with the ROM chip in your HD500X. Monkey will not respond nicely unless it can see the ESN. I have tried using all three USB ports on my laptop, two of which are 2.0. Regarding the ESN number or rather the absence thereof...I wonder why that is... Miguel, i suggest u reconsider post #11 abv, abt reinstalling windows on ur pc 'n start from the beginning with a "clean/virus-free" machine. this is the simplest, yet powerful rule of thumb... I don't have the CD with Windows 7 on it. What if I re-install the whole OS and then find out that the device had been guilty of all these issues all along? FrozenOzone
MiguelMarquez, I don't mean to hijack the thread but I have some questions. The screen shots you provided on the previous page (your post #20) looks like you are using a MAC PC not Windows? Forgive me if I am wrong but I have been in computer industry for a very long time and the screen shots provided don't look like they are from a windows computer. Do you have an apple skin applied? It's indeed a laptop with Windows on it. I'm just using WindowBlinds.
FrozenOzone
OK that makes since. Have you tried disabling WindowBlinds and trying to reconnect your POD? I have used WindowBlinds a few years ago and it just got in the way of things way too often. I am not saying this could be the issue but I have seen it mess with the OS in a weird way. MiguelMarquez
Just unloaded WindowBlinds, reconnected the POD, yet nothing happened. Same problem as before. Something I noticed is that the "bus reported device description" in the device manager reads "HD500". Is there any way to change it? duncann
Do you have problems with any other usb devices? Also, the usb port (the physical connector) is known to be fragile on the hd500/hd500x. Perhaps a loose or intermittent connection? Another thing you mentioned is your device being recognized as an hd500. Have you ever had an hd500 installed on this laptop? And in device manager, when looking at the details tab on the properties for the hd500 (incorrectly identified), then under the property dropdown list, the hardware Ids should read: USB\VID_0E41&PID_4159&REV_0000for an hd500x. An hd500 is: USB\VID_0E41&PID_414D&REV_0000 Sorry to say it's looking more and more like something is wrong physically on the hd500x specifically relating to the usb circuitry. FrozenOzone
No, I don't think there is a way to change that but I think it should read HD500X for the driver? There is a freeware program that will list and clean old or un-used USB drivers. Be sure to create a system restore point before using this software if you are going to give it a try. http://www.thewindowsclub.com/usboblivion-remove-usb-traces-windows I am leaning towards the ESN on the ROM chip in the HD unit might be faulty. As BigChas52 said above. I have seen this happen to some units (through this forum) and the only fix is to send it back to Line 6 and have them fix it. MiguelMarquez
Are you sure this program only deletes old and unused USB drivers?
FrozenOzone
I haven't had to use this version but I thought you could pick the USB in question and delete. So, I am not too sure if it will remove all or let you pick the USB driver. Most keyboards and mice are plug and play so they should come back if removed. If you have other USB devices that require a unique driver I would have the disk ready to re-install the drivers.
BigChas52
Miguel . . . Might I suggest that if you have had the same issues on 2 separate PC's, multiple USB cables, and multiple ports, then the issue may very well be a defective HD500X. Can you return it to where you purchased it and get a replacement?

bjnette
Have you ever owned or connected a HD500? If not, return for sure.
MiguelMarquez
Update on this problem: I got a new HD500x from the music store I had bought the first at. It was definitely the POD's fault. Perhaps the chip was damaged or corrupted, who knows. The new HD500x was recognized instantly, drivers were installed and updated in no time, and now I'm enjoying the device 100%. Thank you all for your help. Hopefully this thread will serve as a future reference for any user having the same problem I did.
videoman77
I didn't read all these posts but from an IT persons perspective here are some things to look for: 1. Did you install all the software BEFORE you plugged in the hd500x? Windows is notorious for USB driver issues. Most occur from people plugging in their devices before they install the software. 2. Try deleting the all the hd500x drivers before trying #1 that includes all the hd400 drivers you did previously. C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore 3. Make sure no other USB devices are plugged in. With exception of mouse and keyboard. Side note I would reboot after deleting all HD related drivers.

PeteStreet
Hello, it might be a bit late, but I think the solution is to avoid using a USB Hub to connect to the computer. As soon as I used a "Real" USB port on my PC, the HD500X connected like a charm...
