I had some people ask me on YouTube to make a tutorial or to share my patches for my POD HD Bass tones, so after like a year I finally got around to it. :P

Tutorial Video on YouTube

And here's links to my tone patches on CustomTone

There's also links to the tones in the Video Description that are hosted on my website, if for whatever reason CustomTone is being weird.

I haven't tried your patches yet but do intend to.

When I use any of the stock bass patches or even my own I get the dreaded lumpy bass where some notes just jump out

and resonate annoyingly more than others. I nearly always record via a half decent preamp.

I'll be interested to see if I can smooth out the notes with your patches

Hey, glad you liked it, and thanks for checking it out.

One of the things I learned early on when recording bass was that there's certain frequencies that I needed to do real sharp cuts to make the bass part not suddenly go "boom! look at me! I'm a bass note!"

For me it usually worked to take an EQ in post and just make a super sharp Q cut right at about 133hz. That seemed to be the worst culprit. There's other spots (don't remember the frequencies off the top of my head) that you can do to further level it out, but for whatever reason 133hz seems to be the big one. Just do a super sharp cut there, and it might just solve the whole problem, if what's happening to you is what was happening to me.

If that's not what you're talking about, please excuse my rambling :D

Yeah its is common to have and it depends on the bass as well.

I used to have the prob on the old TEAC reel to reel preamps.

I found either my Belari Valve Pre or 1173 clone GAP Pre amp to smooth out the lumps and bass not needing surgery.

Using these I found going into the HD500 via the FX return to work well.

The HD500 preamp is what it is for the cost of the unit.

Damn: I just realized I meant to try out line level transformers in the path as a cure.

I just know it will work and I have a few generic ones around.

I Need  help converting your patch to the 500 series. Using the file conversion utility doesn't see your patch

I've never used it, so I'm not sure how the conversion utility works, sorry... :(

You should be able to make a new patch by following the video, but that's the only thing I can think of
