Help Me Out Before I Buy One...

I have done plenty of research into the pod hd500x but I have a few questions before i go for it...

1)  i will be playing at church running into a great sounding PA with sound engineers that I trust - do you think I will struggle?

2) I want to run dual tones in my patches, should I pan them hard left and right and let the noise boys decide or make that decision for them in the mixer section? I will have lots of opportunity to arrive early and work on my patches before most rehearsals..

3) Will i run out of DSP if i try and run these effects in a dual tone patch... compression, reverb, auto volume, ping pong delay?

5) if the answer to question 3 is no would i be albe to fit an particle verb in there also? maybe i have my hopes set to high

thanks

1. Maybe

2. If they will let you use 2 inputs then go for it.

3. Depends on your amp and reverb choices.

4. There is no question 4.

5. See answer to number 3.

It's a great unit, but not right out of the box. It will take some time to get proficient with it, but the rewards are great if you invest the time. There's a ton of worship patches available on customtone. Download a few and try them out. You can also view them in the edit program before you ever buy a Pod just to see what people typically use for worship. Good luck!

As far as versatility goes I have used my HD500 for Worship/live gigs indoors and outdoors/casinos with a great soundman/small clubs with no soundman etc...into amps/direct/FRFR etc....and now that I am familiar with it and can make little tweaks on the fly(very important) I am confident with using it effectively in any situation.I am digging it so much I am having trouble not buying another one LOL!

I went to a guitar centre today and had a play with a HDX.  I love the tones and flexibility but I couldn't get it to run dual amps plus a hall reverb, plus a particle verb and a delay.  I might have to re think.  I know the DSP thing has been said before but its not a lot to ask to be able to do two reverbs and a delay - even if one of them is the particle verb.

Really?  not a lot to ask? tell me what other gear can do it?  Seriously, what are you going to run it into?  Maybe you can use the PRE models, they use less DSP... maybe you can offload one reverb to your amp... you are selling it short if you dismiss it for the reasons you mentioned... or you can add a M5 with midi and its parameters and settings will be saved in your HDX patch.. big extra for little cash...

Im aware that for the money (its more expensive over here in the UK i think) that the POD is much better than its competitors but I was still disappointed.

I want to run direct to our PA.  A D and B audio xS White series system and Digico SD8 desk.  So I'm guessing I will need the full amp models? I had thought about running an M5 for the particle verb also but part of my reason for wanting one was to downsize my pedal board.

the particle verb is one of the heaviest DSP users so you probably will have to offload that to a M5 if you absolutely have to have that particular combination.  I can build dual amp patches on my 500 (not X) using some pre models but some others push me over.  The X has a little more DSP but still probably not enough.

Hmm. I just tried this and didn't run out of DSP. Tried with two soldano overdrive amps. Most of the delays will work (auto-volume and multi-head won't). And depending on the delay chosen, you even have some DSP left over for a noise gate or tube comp and a wah/some filter/some mod.
