rye715 Posted August 26, 2014 Share Posted August 26, 2014 Hi guys. I'll be gigging with HD500x on an XLR setup to be connected via the PA/Mixing Console. Sadly, I only have a single XLR cable that I connect as Left XLR Output. Will this suffice or will there be setbacks? Do you recommend that I use 2 XLRs instead just to maximize the HD500x? radatats Posted August 26, 2014 Share Posted August 26, 2014 the left XLR does not sum to mono like the left 1/4 out. Each XLR sends only its respective half of the stereo signal. You should either use 2 XLR cables into a stereo channel on the mixer or take two mixer channels. You can modify your patches to be mono but that is a pain IMHO. I have only been using the XLR left out to the board and like you everything centered and not any issues. Now if I plug in my 1/4 to the board I will get the nasty fuzz sound on all my patches and that is why I have stayed with the XLR out instead of 1/4. I am in over 4 years with this setup and has never let me down. To add, my setup is not typical and I have 2 paths setup one for guitar and the other for Mic/vocals and I have both paths centered in the mixer. Yes, all my sounds are going out the left XLR. (Guitar and Vocals) Also, as long as you have the mixer panned center and the mixer at the end of the signal chain you should be good to go and IMHO is a full mono signal. just my 2 cents..... Absolutely right. However, it sounded like the OP did not usually use the XLR so rather than rework all his patches I just suggested how best to setup this time. If you intend to always use the XLR and never want a stereo setup then your approach or placing a mono effect last in the chain works great. PRSGuy Posted August 29, 2014 Share Posted August 29, 2014 I play with both XLRs and it sounds great...not to sound like a PITA but why not buy another XLR...they are not that expensive and the stereo effect depending on how your signal chains are configured can sound pretty cool. Maybe you don't have enough inputs on the mixer? I am trying to understand why you would be locked into a single XLR.
