I don't have a clue as to how to set this hard gate

So I just read that you shouldn't use a noise gate but instead use a hard gate. Supposedly the noise gate alters tone much more than a hard gate.

But I don't have a clue as to how to set it. If it's any help to you, I play with my volume wide open pretty much all the time when I practice with my HD Pro X. I don't really play any soft notes, but I'm balls to the wall pretty much all the time.

Can someone give me some tips on how to set it up?

I often don't use any gate but some high gain needs to be quiet when not played.

I find the hard gate to give an artifact which can be used for the stutter effect.

The noise gate is much smoother and maintains the tone better to my ears.

Even the stock preset is about right.

To know it hit a note and adfust the threshold. This is what level the gate shuts.

Use the decay to soften the transition. In other words slowly shuts.
