Podfarm missing amps
by Scorpios on 2013-03-19 08:29:00.1140

I have a UX8 and recently bought a UX2 for a more mobile device to travel with. I am having a problem, I recorded some material at home with the UX8 and when I plug my UX2 in to the same laptop, some of the amps in podfarm are not available that I recorded with using my UX8. Is this normal, and is there a way to use all the UX8 plugins on my UX2???

That is normal. The UX8 essential has all the models.

I new UX2 POD Studio has POD Farm 2 Standard plus FX-Junkie.

You can either purchase separate  model packs for the UX2 or outright purchase POD Farm 2 Platinum (Hardware Independent, not for iLok).

If you go the model pack route you can save a lilttle money you can purchase model packs for a UX1, they will work with the UX2.

If you outright purchase POD Farm 2 platinum, you would not even need a device connected to run plug-in's

Thanks for the reply, though I have to admit this is really lame. Defeats my whole purpose of buying an UX2. I am not really so keen on the idea of having to buy the software already have to be able to use it with a second interface. Guess I will be looking into other options than line6 from now on.

Yeah, I know what you mean.

But there is a distinction between a license bundled with hardware or purchased separately.

For instance, if you buy a computer that that comes bundles with the OS, it is tied to that computer, you can not take that OS and install it on another computer. Where as if you out right purchase the OS, it is not tied to a computer.

But Line6 did liberate the licenses a bit, which I assume was in response to consumer feed back.

You can now share licenses that you paid for on up to 4 devices, and the computer version of POD Farm 2.5 works with most ASIO USB interfaces.

So if you were just starting out now you could buy POD Farm Platinum for $299 and have all the model and use them on up to 4 devices and/or computers.

Not saying it's the best system, but it is better than it was.

Yeah I see what you mean, but in this case I think it is still really lame. One of the reasons to decide to go with the UX8 was the included software, which I liked and got the UX2 to be able to work on projects on the road without having to lug around the UX8. I can understand about having the software itself limited to one computer for installation, but the other way around makes no sense at all if I already purchased the required hardware and then tried to add on with more line6 hardware. Hopefully Line 6 gets some customer feedback on this issue and does something about it, as much as I like he podfarm software, this is a major inconvenience and 299$ feels pretty harsh for someone in my shoes. It already is limiting when I send tracks to be mixed and mastered and usually to a studio that doesnt have a line6 interface and the re-amping comes in to play.

I hate to say it, but I think for now I will just be sticking with Guitar Rig and Amplitube to avoid the frustrating issues this has gotten me into while trying to finish up things on a recording while I am on the road. If I knew this was the situation before buying the UX2 I definately would have opted for a different brand of small portable interfaces and hopefully can get rid of this thing on ebay.

Like I said, not saying it's the best system, but they have to dry the line somewhere. And you're not alone, there are many people feel it's lame.

Just think how lame some of the early adaptors feel.

The Gearbox plug-in retailed for $499 and you still need the Line6 interface to authorize it!!

And then you had to pay if you wanted to upgrade to POD Farm.

Guitar Rig isn't too pocket friendly either.

Here's what the UX2's are going for">">

Actually I put in a support ticket about this explaining the situation, and line6 sent me licenses to authorize the plugins for my UX2. They responded same day, so I have to say from this experience, they have really good customer service.

That's pretty cool!!

They don't always do that.
