HD400 vs HD300
by jhdesign on 2012-07-10 01:02:58.9010

A store up here in Canada has on sale the HD400 for less than the HD300.

I gave up on getting the 500 as it seems a bit too much of a learning curve. So I decided to get another 300 untill I saw the 400 on sale.

Is there any reason I should buy the 400 rather then the 300 ?

They both seem almost identicle except for the layout and a few extra effects.

As for Customtone presets. Does the 400 use the same as the 300 ?

You can compare the 2 devices here:

http://line6.com/podhd/multi-effects/compare.html">http://line6.com/podhd/multi-effects/compare.html">http://line6.com/podhd/multi-effects/compare.html

As you can see it is not only less effects, it is also missing Send/Return path and no external expression pedal jack.

Yes, you can load HD300 files into the POD HD400, but only this one way.

If you can get a HD400 for less money it is a good offer.

(Currently only the HD500/PRO/BONE have firmware 2.02 with the new plexi lead and bass amp model, furthermore it comes with new cab deep editing.

We do not know how much the HD300/400 will get of it in the future (discussion: you have to buy what the device can do now, not in the future). Only HD500/PRO/BONE provide bi-amping, and free selectable effects (not only one effect out of one block), and some things more).

What Mazuwa said.   Not much difference in complexity between the 300 and 400.  I would go for it!

i'd want the 400 over the 300 just for the ability to change preset banks without hitting 2 footswitches myself...

the extra fx and the fx loop are also considerable bonuses.

Thanks for all the replies.

As long as I can use the Customtone presets made for the 300 on the 400, then it will be the 400 I'm buying.

I'd love to have the additional effects, as well as not having to step on two switches to change banks!

400 has quite a few little cool tricks...nice board...enjoy!

A few tricks ? As compared to the 300 ? If I'm missing something, do tell.

I first bought the 300 last October and then sold it 2 months ago. I loved the simplicity of the Edit software and the board itself.

So far the 400 seems pretty much the same.

Thanks spacati

Why is it that when I download effects for the 300, their is no “POD HD Edit” logo on the file, its just a blank document ?

because the file type is different... technically those files are meant to work with hd300 edit...

it just so happens that they also work with the hd400

You have to change the file type to ".h4e", instead of ".h3e".  It will recognize it then.
