Mountain Lion
by rickentosh on 2012-07-25 17:54:46.3440

Ok, it's official. Apple released Mountain Lion, OS 10.8 today. Is there any word from Line 6 regarding compatibility with Mountain Lion? I looked around and found nothing so far. FYI, I'm using a TonePort UX1, GearBox 3.72 and USB Firmware 1.06. Upon updating Line 6 Monkey to 1.59 I have found my drivers need updating from 7.1.5 to 7.1.7. Under the Help & Info field, I've noticed that the new driver is signed for installation on Mac OS 10.8. I'm currently running a Mac Pro (Early 2008) and Lion OS 10.7.4 and use Garage Band 6.0.5 and Logic Express 8.0.2. Is it safe to update the drivers to 7.1.7 and then upgrade to Mountain Lion 10.8? I will wait for some feedback before I take the plunge. Thanks!

i'm sure its coming... but nothing has been announced to my knowledge.

Re: Mountain Lion
by Triryche on 2012-07-26 18:54:33.0730

I just noticed that the driver was released 7-5-12.

But Monkey and POD Farm 2 were released on 7-24-12.

Perhaps downloading the newest Monkey and PF2 will help.

by rickentosh on 2012-07-28 10:10:38.0270

Update... Line 6 Tech Support informed me that the new driver, 7.1.7, is certified for Mac OS 10.8. I performed all updates before upgrading to Mountain Lion and tested everything thoroughly afterwards and have no issues at this time. So in my instance, with my software and hardware, all is good. I hope this update helps all who wish to upgrade to Mountan Lion.

Re: Mountain Lion
by sozeg on 2012-07-29 08:02:26.6590

All my drivers are up to date and yet I now get a digital crackling noise all through my recordings. This happens when I go staight from the HD500 to Garageband but also if it put the HD500 into my UX1.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Re: Mountain Lion
by dannyjlambert on 2012-07-30 04:52:48.6820

I've reinstalled everything... made sure everything is updated and I still get crackling/distortion. I have also upgraded to mountain lion.

Sent a support ticket last week... no update.

Fairly frustrating! Is there no news that this is being worked on?

Re: Mountain Lion
by dannyjlambert on 2012-07-30 04:56:50.6900

Do you reckon the software would work fine if I updated line6 BEFORE upgrading to Mountian Lion? As I'm fairly sure my software was fully up to date... Is it worth rolling back?

Re: Mountain Lion
by viossy81 on 2012-07-30 10:18:40.4740

Same problem like Sozeg and dannyjlambert...

Crackling e distortion using my Pod Studio GX with Garage Band. I've upgraded my Macbook Pro (MID 2009, 2,53 GHz dual core, RAM 8 GB) at Mountain Lion, i've installed the last driver (7.1.7) and i have this problem. the device works perfectly only with Pod Farm (no crackling or distortion). I never had these problems with Lion... I hope there is a solution...

I purchased a UX1 the day after I upgraded to Mountain Lion and it's completely useless since my purchase because there are no new drivers.

I updated to 10.8, had the crackling so reinstalled the latest driver and the latest Pod Farm and Line Monkey. No difference, still crackling.

Re: Mountain Lion
by joansto on 2012-08-07 12:31:09.9270

I have exactly the same issue, I can hear my harddrive sound in my headphones and this cracking sound after upgrading to mountain lion 10.8 on a Macbook Pro (2009 version). When turning on phantom power 48v for my condensator microphone it is even worse and if trying to record with builtin Garageband all this cracking noise is recorded so at the moment my soundcard is useless. All drivers updated using (7.1.7) Drivers. I also experiance that you can't use recordings on both Mic + Instrument at the same time and need to swap these settings in the Line 6 control panel in Macbook settings menu. I have opened a support ticket and that ticket was removed but I uploaded information and logs so hopefully Line6 is working on this issues. I suggest you should open tickets if you have similar issues.

Re: Mountain Lion
by joansto on 2012-08-09 09:23:51.9910

I called Line6 support in UK today and they confirmed that my ticket is taken care of. The reason why it was gone and removed was that my ticket was escalated to USA. I was told they are working on looking into the drivers while there seems to be some issues combined with Mountain Lion 10.8. So now we can only wait until a new driver is released hopefully in the near future.

Pc running better than a mac for music apps........that'll be a first then eh? Still got to load in tonnes of drivers when you want to run a camera or printer or anything in fact. Subscriptions to mccaffee to keep out nasty bugs. I'll stick with my mac. Once line6 sort this problem it will be back to shear bliss. Good luck though when the next pc felling virus appears!

Just wanted to chime in saying that we have received your inquiries and are aware of this audio issue of using our hardware as an audio interface on Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion.

We will make and announcement when we have further info or resolution to the problem.

Re: Mountain Lion

Same problem here. Crackling / Noising / unusable. Very annoying to wait. Latest driver & Mountain Lion do not seem to like each other.

Re: Mountain Lion
by 21greg on 2012-09-03 06:07:24.6980

I have the same problem as you

the driver 7.1.7 does not work

or a TonePort UX1 or pod xt live

this has been going out of the mountain lion impossible to update or create

Re: Mountain Lion
by sozeg on 2012-09-07 18:12:13.0550

I read on another discussion page that if you open pod farm first then GarageBand then everything works fine, both through ux1 and hd500. I tried it and it does work! I just downloaded the free version of pod farm and Incan now record without any crackling onto GarageBand. Give it a go and see if it works for you.

Re: Mountain Lion
by youonlyhide on 2012-09-08 04:44:50.1250

This has absolutely knocked off any recording I can do, I'm in limbo as my toneport is essential for my recording process, and I have projects to finish.

I simply cannot wait any more for a fix to appear.

Fair enoughI understand there can be problems and it's being looked into, but there's no time scale nor has there been any more new information on a fix/patch since the 9th August, so I'm going to have to buy a new interface.

It's a shame as I've not had any previous problems for the last 3 years.

Same problem here.

It is really disappointinh. My UX1 ist just useless at the moment. Since weeks. Im really thinking about aquiring another device and no longer use Line6. Your products are really good, sure, but if they don't work, all features are useless.

I can wait about one or two weeks, maybe. But there are still some projects I have to work on...

Same problem, got a new MacBook Pro with OSX 10.8 Mountain Lion pre-installed. Trying to use this Line 6 Pod Studio UX2 has been quite the hastle, i'm thinking i'll send it back since it's only been a few days from the purchase but no one has found a solution to this device not working on the new Mac system. Monkey freaks out and never actually updates the drivers, possibly because there is none for ML? and the license manager never recognizes the device but a few random occasions where it works for 10 minutes but has this nasty crackle coming from it. I'm sure this thing sound incredible when it works, but i don't think it's worth it to keep unless there is a patch coming quickly that we don't know about. I'm frustrated, anybody have any news yet?

Re: Mountain Lion
by pedroturbay on 2012-10-08 10:34:45.6060

OK.. The new driver was released and it didn't fix my problems.

The cracking/poping noise was still appearing during the recordings. It was a big noise and then it cracked for 10 seconds and then stopped. Then it haeppened again and again. I opened a ticket suport for this which is still opened without resolution.

This week my Toneport UX1 gave a new trick: when I connect it to my macbook it goes green for a minute, but the sound of the instrument/mic is zero. Also my USB mouse goes away.

After a minute or two, the light simply goes red and the line 6 device is no longer recognized by the Mac OS X. When I go to Line6 Audio Devices on System Preferences it says "no line 6 product connected".

Please, am I the only one? I'm getting preety tired with this story. This time I'm thinking really serious about buying another product. Can't record anything since Mac 10.8.2 came out.

Re: Mountain Lion

I just received my new MacBook Pro Retina display this morning and after installing the driver for my Toneport UX1, I have exactly the same problem as pedroturbay.

After a few seconds, the light of the box turns red then turns off and is not recognise by the Mac no more.

I hope there will be a fixed released soon!!

Every day I check Line6 Monkey for new updatest, but nothing happens.

I do not even think about, to "go back" to Lion, only to fix your issue!

Please fix this as soon as possible.

Re: Mountain Lion

Ok, I have an open suport ticket about since Sep. 21.

Today I updated with this message:

On my behalf and of other customers, I want to ask you and Line6 to put the situation on this problem on the topics related. Everyday I see new people complaining and you guys never show up to tell us what this big problem is. It won't take more than 10 minutes of your day to give a status of this solution. Please, transparency is the only thing that could relieve this tension.

I suggest that you tell us about:

- What happened? What does your team know about this incompatibility? Is there something that Apple could do to help? How big is this thing?

- How many employees do you have working on this and how much time/day?

- Is there something we could do to help?

- What is the kind of assistant that Line6 will provide in case of not fixing this?

The topics that are discussing about this subjects are:

Please answer us. Talk to us. It's been more than 3 months. The first topic about this same problem is from JULY! We demand transparency and conversation.

Thank you,

I hope this will help at least about the conversation beetween Line6 and us.

I just got my MacBook Pro with Mountain Lion yesterday.  All drivers are up to date.  My UX2 is distored, works for a couple seconds and then kills the USB ports in my laptop.  I have to put the laptop to sleep to get them back.  I can't believe that Line6 has not fixed this issue yet.  How hard can it be?  It's audio on a Mac!!!

Re: Mountain Lion
by danqua on 2012-10-30 04:25:34.0680

I'm done with Line6!

There are so many people out there with this issue and Line6 doesn't do anything.

It seems that Line6 doesn't pay that much attention on this, otherwise they would make an statement!

Are there any other alternatives to Line6 UX1  / UX2 you can recommend?

Same problem here.  I've actually only had the UX1 for a couple of months as I originally was using it on a PC.  I've just today moved over to a Mac and run straight into this USB disabling bug.

Uncool.    How about some sort of acknowledgement from Line6?  The silence is deafening.

Re: Mountain Lion
by qiuyuexp on 2012-11-06 21:52:56.4020

My friend give me a line6 toneport kb37, it doesn't work well in Mountain Lion.

when I use it to record something via my mic, the noise coming now or then. it sounds like the device pause for half a second and the noise followed. I tried to change the buffer size in logic pro but it doesn't help.

I use the same devices in another mac which use OSX Lion instead, the problem never come up.

I have installed the newest drivers and GearBox by Line Monkey, the laptop is mbp 15-inch mid 2010, the version of OS is 10.8.2.

fix it, please.

Re: Mountain Lion
by stuz0r on 2012-11-11 10:34:42.1540

This sucks, but it's good to know I am not going crazy. I was on the verge of ripping out my UX2 and throwing it against the wall. It would be great if there was a fix. I guess they'll take care of it in the next year or two... If anyone finds a work around please let us know. I did just update my mac today with a "fix for some usb issues on certain devices" that was put out by Apple. Alas, it did not fix it. My usb ports all just stopped working about 10 minutes ago after using my UX2 for about 15 minutes. Hope you all have better luck.

Re: Mountain Lion
by joansto on 2012-11-16 09:58:34.4800

I can confirm and inform you all about that there is a workaround and fix for this issue that works 100% every time on a MAC 10.8 Mountain Lion.

I have had to come up with this solution myself and it has cost me a lot of work. Both in terms of that I have not been able to record and use my equipment but also in troubleshooting and testing. I will be glad to share ttroubleshooting and development of this issues to Line6 in my ticket 186665. In order to share this info with Line6 I will need some compensation for my findings.

If you are in contact with Line6 you can refer your questions into this ticket 186665 if you are intrested in having a workaround that works 100%. Otherwise we all could wait some more weeks or month for a final fix by Line6.

Re: Mountain Lion
by zakhooi on 2012-11-16 10:04:00.2110

Sound you did a hell of a job. I wonder if it would fix the trouble I have as well. I hope the fix will be available for us too. But I'm afraid we won't get it from Line6 because they've ignored all complaints completely so far.

Where can I find ticket 186665 ?

Re: Mountain Lion
by joansto on 2012-11-16 10:19:01.7400

You can open your own ticket and write a comment in that ticket to Line6 that there is some valuble information in ticket 186665 if they are intrested. I agree with you that Line6 should have had a solution by now.

With the info in this ticket Line6 could be able to establish a permanent solution fo everyone and keep a lot of customers while I think Line6 are doing a lot of nice products. I am not so happy with the support/escalation and software development processes in the testing phases combined with new OS realeases from different supported operating systems like MAC and others.

Re: Mountain Lion
by simonk83 on 2012-11-18 00:24:33.9800

Well, someone mentioned that if you plug the device in through a USB2.0 hub, that allows it to work.   Unfortunately that doesn't work either.   Still drops all USB devices from the Mac.

joansto, that's great that you've found a solution, and I understand it'd be lovely to want to be paid for that (not sure how realistic it is however), but it'd be nice if you could share it with the wider community so we don't all have useless products sitting on our desks.

Re: Mountain Lion

Everyone- never mind this d-bag, and don't let him get your hopes up. Despite what this a@#HOLE says, there IS NO WORKAROUND that will make the current Line6 Mountain Lion 10.8 driver work with Mountain Lion 10.8.2

Re: Mountain Lion
by simonk83 on 2012-11-24 13:17:09.9880

Well I raised a ticket with Line6, and after one initial reply to update my software (it's up to date), nothing since and all the ticket says is "this is assumed answered, reply to this ticket to keep it open" or some such.   The problem is, replying to it does nothing.  It's just going to auto close I assume (which is ridiculous) so I'll just have to keep creating tickets pointing to the original one.

Really seems they don't give a damn about their products

Re: Mountain Lion
by Anthonychilds on 2012-11-26 14:29:24.6300

Nearly gave up all hope and purchased an Apogee unit, but today I went into system preferences/security&privacy and changed allow applications to 'anywhere' This new gatekeeper setting in mountain lion directly effects USB ports and its got rid of all the distortion and crackling on my UX2... I'm not sure what security issues it opens up but I hope this works for you.

Re: Mountain Lion
by simonk83 on 2012-11-26 23:05:22.1890

Mine is already set to that unfortunately

Re: Mountain Lion
by joansto on 2012-12-06 11:43:05.5890

That is not true , I have one ongoing discussion with Line6 in my ticket raised to them and am willing to share this findings for them. But I have not got any reply and no offerings for any compensations. I have been recording with 10.8.2 last 1.5 month now both using Microphone, Midi and Line in guitars without any popping noise making this hardware useless.

I agree "simonk83" that is my point as well, it would have been solved by now. But there is nothing wrong on the first line support personel in UK, They try very hard to do there best solving this and find workarounds etc. I think the main issue is that developers probably in USA where these issues are escalated might not have the highest priority on working to solve this? 6 month and still not a permanent fix or working workaround is a very long time.

Re: Mountain Lion
by zakhooi on 2012-12-18 08:05:29.2520

I think I've found an alternative piece of hardware.

Check this out:">">

It's quite cheap and it can do even more than my UX1

I didn't have a change yet to try it out on my DAW (Maxos 10.8.2 with Logic Pro) but I'm sure you can't go wrong as it says it supports Maxos and it's very cheap compared to line6 UX1.
But their support can't be worse than Line6's ....

I cannot believe this. Really can't believe it. Spent the last £100 of my inheritance from my late grandparents on this piece of kit, as a Christmas treat for myself. Install it, mega excited to get going with it. The fact this thread is something they've known about for what, FIVE MONTHS? and haven't done a god damn thing in that time is an utter DISGRACE. Can we not take legal action against Line 6? £100 may be nothing to some people but it's a HELL of a lot to me, and it's gone on something which I can't use, can't return, and can only sell on for what, £40?

I will never, ever, be buying a Line 6 product again, and the first thing I'll tell any musician I ever meet is to do the same. Utter negligence. You've literally ruined my Christmas, Hugo and co. Well done for being such pathetic, hapless employees that you couldn't fix this in such a long time. And thanks, thanks just so much, for fucking up my Christmas. Merry effing Christmas everybody.

Hi Folks and everyone,

I found out that starting POD Farm/Farm2 after starting up your 10.8.2 system keeps the line6 device stable and up and running.

Discovered this in a coincidence, but worked for me for a whole week now.

You might want to give this a try.

You don't have to use POD Farm, just make sure it's open/running.

Re-initializing other audio devices in Logic/ProTools/System Preferences and going back and forth to the line6 devices works flawlessly now.

Still, I expect line6 to fix the driver here.

Hope I could help some.

Line6 has not been to any help for me even though I found a good workaround for this issue they were not interested in compensate something for this to let others have a working workaround. I have now been using the UX2 with 10.8.2 mountain lion for about 3 month even though line6 have not been solving this issue for 6-7 month. There is christmas now and I think it would be fair to share my findings if it could be to any help for others having the same issuses that I had.

Ok first of all you need to install the latest drivers from Line6 (7.1.7), you will still have these issues after installing these drivers. Might work one out of 10 or so. If you have the UX2 when popping and cracking sound is back you should do the following.

1. Press and turn on the 48v phantom power so that the red lap is on

2. Turn off the 48v phantom power again (the new drivers and 10.8.2 with Apple has changed some power outage for the usb port and Ux2 seems to have a condensator that needs to be 100% empty of power)

3. Now you should remove the USB cable, (Important don't remove the USB cable from the computer!!!!!, remove the USB cable from back of the UX2 device very important that you do this!)

4. Wait about 10 sek with the usb cable removed

5. Plug in the USB cable in the back of the UX2 device again.

6. Workaround is ready and the popping and cracking sound should be gone!

Now you can aldo turn on the 48v phantom power if needed, repeat this procedure if you have the strange sounds again after hibernation of your laptop etc.

Happy Christmas all of you and I hope you can do some recordings again without the irritating sound. It might work to only follow and repeat step 3-6 abow also. The reason most of the people have not found this workaround is that 90% of all users are removing the cable from the laptop probably including the Line6 support then....

This is verified with Garageband but probably this solution works for Logic and other programs too.

There is still an issue with the Line6 drivers while there is not possible to use Mic and Instrument at the same time even though there is a setting for this within the drivers and operating system settings for Line6.

I was about buing a new guitar from Line6 the new Variax JTV model but I have changed my mind while I can't take the risk to have to wait for driver updates and fixes while I assume there is similar issues with all the gear. I think I will  look at the fender by roland guitar instead, more limited in its software but the product seems to be verified and working out of the box without any built-in features.

Happy Christmas and a good new year!!

It works for a few minutes and then when I click dual my ux1 light turns red and then off and pod farm freezes and crashes? It was working fine mid day yesterday now it won't work does anyone know why???

I got a MacBook pro 13inch with retina for Christmas and bought a UX1 a few days ago it worked fine until yesterday, the light turns red and then swithces off when dual is selected and pod farm freezes and my computer won't recognize my UX1 anymore so I have to restart my computer to get the UX1's light green again. I have unistalled the drivers and unistalled pod farm a few times now and reinstalled everything but it's not worked. Anyone help ASAP!!!!!!! Cheers!

Hey Jake,

Unfortunately this is happening to a lot of us myself included. I have the Pod Studio UX2 (not the tone port) with the latest update of mountain lion and this is exactly what's happening to me. There is no known solution for it at the time. We can only hope that it won't be another 4 months until they fix it... that's if they ever decide too. Usually, if there is something like this that happens with the firmware companies try and fix it ASAP, within a week, a month at most. This is really unusual that they haven't fixed it yet. Where I work if something like this had happened and it was not fixed within a week or two a lot of people would be jobless...

Ok, I'm done with Line6 and bought another device.
I just own a 'M-Audio Mobile Pre Mk II' which is comparable with the UX2.

I can confirm it works excellent with OSX 10.8.2 on my Imac (I'm using Logic 9).
For me any Line6 related business ends here. With their arrogant ignorance no Line6 products for me ever anymore.
I hope this hint will help others too and make them leave Line6 as well.

Good luck.

Man... I'm about to do the same. I really like PodFarm though. If I could keep using it while using the M-Audio as the audio interface I'd do it ASAP!

I have tested the latest driver from Line6 and that driver has the same issues for me, but my workaround still works fine.

I'm happy to report that driver v.7.2.1, released 01/15/13, seems to have solved the problem (at last).

Played a gig yesterday, solid.

We have just released our latest Mac driver v7.2.1 for Mac OS X to fix the problem where USB Devices become unresponsive after using POD Farm, recording/playback in a DAW, or using other audio programs.

This driver also includes changes which may improve the noise or distortion issues some OS X 10.8 customers have experienced.

Please use Line 6 Monkeyn to update or download the driver directly from our website:

If you continue to have problems with audio using our latest 7.2.1 driver for Mac OS X, please submit a support ticket:">">

Too late.

If only Line6 could at least response with a sign of life the past MONTHS of complaints. Instead they have been ignorant and absent.

I totaly and I mean completely lost my trust in Line6 customer support for being ignorant for months.
I got rid of my Line6 products and I'm happy, no more Line6 for me, ever.

Maybe this posts gets deleted but that would confirm my feeling about this company.

The distortion problem was fixed for me with the latest drivers BUT now UX2 stops responding sometimes. No sound, nothing. Have to restart the computer to start working again.

Any news on this?

Still nothing for me... Check out my video explaining the problem and i think every one who is experiencing this issue should record it and share it. Please comment my video with your video so Line 6 will make a move. Thank you :

Hey guys, I'm coming to say goodbye! Thanks a lot for the company these months. I'm moving to a new device, new life. It's been more than 6 months without a minute recorded without those explosion in my ear and I got pretty tired of it.

Hope you guys make a little money to escape from this too.

Here is the end of my suport ticket that was opened on Sep 21th:

Didn't work.

First when I tried to update using Monkey the app was shuting down (tried to reboot the system a lot times...) I'm sending it atached.

Then I installed the new driver. Recorded for 5 minuts and then it exploded once again with that big noise that goes fading away in 30 seconds. After it's gone when I say something on the mic it has a little pop too.

And this was the end of the line for me. The end of Line6 2. I'm really impressed with the shit support you and your crew gave me and the other users.

Not only took more than 6 months to release a new driver but there was the lack of transparency and the absence of true information for us.

You may shut this support ticket down because I'm throwing this device on the trash now. I'll never buy Line6 products and will try to tell everyone about this pleasant story we had.

So long, thanks for nothing.

I searched for any known problems before installing line 6 drivers to use GuitarPort with GarageBand on my shiny new MacBookPro (OSX Mountatin Lion, 10.8.2). Despite all the negative feedback here, I went ahead.

I am happy to report it is working well!
