FBV Shortboard mkII with Spider III 30?
by moses423 on 2012-10-02 19:48:26.5160

Hello!  I've looked around here and all I've found are indicators that this combo (FBV Shortboard mkII with Spider III 30) should work.  I've had the Spider III 30 for a while now, but I just picked up the Shortboard.  I've updated the firmware to the latest (Monkey says 1.10) and when I plug it in to the Spider, it turns on and the display says LINE 6.  Buttons A-D change the channel on the amp, as expected. TAP will change my delay time if it's turned on.  I can change between wah and volume, and those work properly.

The other eight buttons do exactly nothing.  Up and Down do not change banks, DELAY does not turn delay on and off, etc.  The display never stops saying LINE 6.

Is this a problem with the amp, the board, or the documentation that says they should be functional?

I'm afraid that's all the functionality you will get from the Shortboard with a Spider 30.  A quick search on this site for the compatibility chart gets this page: which indicates it works, but doesn't give details about the functionality.   Note that Line 6 says the Shortboard does not work with the Spider IV 30 - an indication that all is not right with the Spider III either.

ffbrgst is right, I have the same amp and same pedal board. although i do think that the tuner works as well....

i have all 3 versions of the pedal board, the express is a good fit for this amp. although i probably would have picked up the shortboard as well so that i'd be in better shape when it comes time to upgrade the amp.

Ahh, see, the document that was throwing me off is at">"> and it indicates that all the buttons except the Function 2 button should work with the Spider III.

So I have to get a Spider IV 75  or greater before the Shortboard will live up to its full potential?

Yes.  I would heartily recommend the SPider IV 75 (or higher power models).  The improvements in sound (amp modeling and FX) are well worth the investment.  Of course you may want to wait until the Spider 5 models come out, but that could be years.

The information above may not be current, and you should direct questions to the current forum or review the manual.
