  1. We played a rather large outdoor event Saturday with our band. (We are a 5 piece cover band) The city blocks off all the streets and we were one of 9 bands playing at the same time all at different locations. It was a good show, people seemed to like us and what I feel is the ultimate judge of how you did was we got a few pending gigs out of it.. So as we were tearing down and loading up a gentlemen came up to us and said. He runs the sound system at the big stage every year and he went to see a buddy's band playing a few blocks down. He said he parked his car close to them and all you could hear was us. He went on to say it was so clear and clean sounding that he thought it was a very large system. ( we have the M20D mixer, 2 L3Ms and 2L3S) he was shocked at how compact it was. He really liked it. And I had to take them out of the cases to show him the complete system. He thought it was QSC by the looks of it. I set him straight, he wants to invest in one, and I want straight up 1/2 commission from whoever he buys it from. : ) Anyway I've been playing a long time and never had someone make a special trip over to check out the PA. Cudos to Line 6. I love my system. PC
  2. Thanks SI We didn't out battle him anyway. We felt as a band it's our job to play in our time slot and whatever else happens is not our responsibility. Thanks for the answer. I use the line 6 link so I'll leave the speakers alone and increase the mains. PC
  3. Did a parking lot gig with my line 6 system. (M20d mixer 2 L3M 2 L3 Subs) Unfortunately the bar owner booked a DJ as well. He was supposed to play only during our breaks. Well he didn't. We had a bit of a volume war. Now everyone kept telling me to turn the band up to overpower him. I kept the speaker volumes at 12 o'clock and hit 0 with the mains. I've never had to push it more then this. But it still wasn't loud enough. We area 5 piece band with everyone going through the board drums were bass drum snare and two overheads. The obvious answer was to shoot the DJ I know...lol My questions are: If the speakers are at the 12 o clock setting is this only 1/2 of their capable volume? Is it better to keep the board volume at 0 and turn the speaker volumes up? If so what's the max to put the speaker volume at before you run risk of damaging them?
  4. Thank you both for your quick response. We have done many inside gigs and have been complimented several times regarding our sound. I was worried about outdoors cause its a bigger venue. You both basically set my mind at ease by your experiences. Thanks again for your advice PC.
  5. Once again I find myself struggling with a decision that I want to run by you sound pros to make an informed decision. Last summer I purchased an MD 20 mixer (2) L3M Speakers and (2) L3Subs. I am the trusty bass player in our cover band and we are doing some outdoor shows this summer. In my last system we had a DBX drive rack that we would use to automatically tune the system. What I've been told by a friend that does sound for a living is this. Since my system has a 31 band eq and I have no pro tuned ear like real sound men do is to get a RTA app on my iPad, and a calibrated measurement mic. Run pink noise through the system have the sound analyzed through the app then apply manually to the main eq to get close to flat as possible. My question is... Is this a good idea? Is there better options? And if it is a good idea how do you translate the 1/3 octave eq setting from the app to the actual EQ. I mean if the analyzer says lets say 1600hz is at -47db and 63hz is at -30, am I reducing the eq band 63hz 17 db? I really want to make this simple. But want to make the system sound it's best. I'd appreciate as always any advice. Thanks in advance. PC
