"Helix Stadium Bulk Transfer" Problem?
Line 6 Central Problem?
Full Owner’s Manual.pdf?
Ableton 12 - ASIO Stadium Driver Problem?
White line and black rectangle on the startup screen?
Two audio interfaces?
I have Helix Stadium XL, firmware 1.2.1. Windows 11 ver. 25H2 (Polish language version), new installation.
After connecting Helix Stadium XL to the PC with a USB C-C or C-A cable to the USB port on the front panel of the PC or on the motherboard, an Unknown device named "Helix Stadium Bulk Transfer" appears in Device Manager with an exclamation mark (fig. 1) "No drivers for this device are installed." It turns out this is a non-working USB driver for Helix Stadium XL. Updating the driver does not help. After attempting to install, the following message appears: "Windows encountered a problem while installing drivers for this device. Windows found drivers for this device but encountered an error while trying to install them. Helix Stadium XL. The installation class does not exist or is invalid" (fig. 2).
This appears to be a Line6 software error, and the manufacturer does not inform about it. I do not know if it only affects the Windows system or also macOS. It is certainly not an error resulting from Windows.
This driver error, visible in Device Manager, is, in my opinion, a poorly written WinUsb Driver, which, despite the Stadium XL software update, still has not been fixed.
I am surprised that the description of this problem is practically absent on the internet.
None of the YouTube tests I've seen mention this. In fact, these tests don't even mention the Stadium XL's inability to connect to Line 6 Central in Windows. Line 6 Central only recognizes a PC.
Line 6 Central doesn't offer any options for selection or configuration, either via Wi-Fi or USB. Currently, in this version, Line 6 Central is useless, and I don't think there's any point in installing it.
There's no information from the manufacturer on this matter.
In my opinion, the only program that needs to be installed is the Helix Stadium program, which consists of the Helix Stadium Application (the successor to HX Editor), the Helix Stadium ASIO Driver, and the WinUsb Driver. Firmware updates can be done directly from the Stadium XL menu via Wi-Fi.
Launching the Helix Stadium Application with the Stadium XL connected to a PC via a USB C-C cable or without this connection and with Wi-Fi turned off on the Helix Stadium XL causes the Helix Stadium Application to automatically close when attempting to launch it. With Wi-Fi enabled, the Helix Stadium Application works.
It's hard to believe that a device with a problematic driver was brought to market.
Below I describe additional issues:
1. In the DAW I use (Ableton Live 12 Lite), there is also a problem caused by the drivers. The Wi-Fi connection works, even when a USB C-C cable is connected at the same time. Helix Stadium XL is recognized without errors in Ableton Live 12 Lite in the "Option/Settings/Audio" Menu. The "Driver Type" setting (set to "ASIO") and "Channel Configuration" (set to "ASIO Stadium") (fig. 3) work simultaneously with the Helix Stadium Application (changes made in the Helix Stadium Application are visible on the Helix Stadium XL and vice versa).
However, when selecting in Ableton Live 12 Lite in the Track settings "Ext. In/Configure" in the "Settings/Audio" window that appears (this is the same window as the one selected from the Menu "Option/Settings/Audio"), at the positions "Driver Type" (selected "ASIO") and "Channel Configuration" (selected "ASIO Stadium") exclamation marks are visible (fig. 4). Input Config and Output Config are configured correctly, and on the configured track and the Main track there is a signal coming from the Stadium XL.
I can't find any information about these exclamation marks. Strangely, as I wrote above, the same window selected from the top Menu shows that everything is fine, but when selected from the track configuration, it shows exclamation marks in two positions?!
2. What is the separation of tasks between the Helix Stadium App and Line 6 Central? Which one is used for what? If the firmware update is done directly from the Stadium XL via Wi-Fi, and the drivers are installed during the Helix Stadium installation, is Line 6 Central necessary for anything, since it doesn't recognize the Stadium XL anyway, only the computer?
3. On the Line 6 website, there is a "Cheat Sheet," 2 pages in pdf, which is anyway included with the Stadium in the form of a double-sided poster. The "Owner’s Manual" is only available online, which is not always convenient. Is the full manual available somewhere in pdf, because despite intensive searching, I have not found it (for the HELIX Floor XL it was included on a USB drive in several languages).
4. After turning on the power, in the upper right corner of the Stadium XL display, there is a white vertical line, something like a "cursor" in a DOS command line, and to its right side, there is a small black rectangle (fig. 5). About 30 seconds after startup, the "cursor" blinks for a moment and then disappears, leaving the black rectangle, which disappears after a few seconds when the welcome screen "LINE 6 HELIX STADIUM XL" is displayed. Is this normal behavior?
5. What is the maximum length of a USB C-C cable when simultaneously playing guitar and recording it in a DAW (the Stadium XL must be connected by a USB cable to a PC)? How can this be managed, because placing the Stadium XL right next to the computer, especially if it is a desktop PC, is very inconvenient.
6. Is it possible to set in a DAW (Ableton) Stadium XL as the audio input interface, and, for example, Sound Blaster AE-9 as the output interface? So that I could monitor through a PC (headphones or speakers connected to the PC), and not through the headphone jack on the Stadium XL. Or maybe ASIO drivers prevent this and only work within a single audio interface (as input and output of the signal)?
I would be grateful for any information regarding the other issues I mentioned.
