Okay i figured it out. You must press save on the unit after making any changes. I assumed that using the "send to device" button in hd edit would save the patch since it hid the asterisk in hd edit. I noticed the asterisk was still showing on the unit, so by pushing save on the unit it keeps that changes permanently. Makes sense to me now.
