I sat down down with both again and it's apples oranges. The Helix is just too flexible. I could use it to play out if that should ever arise again. The AMPLIFi is quicker to use for those minutes I just want to play.

First, I have both and actually like them for different reasons. I'm an ex-gigging player who really doubts I'll return to the stage. I do think the Helix is quite a bit better than the AMPLIFi in terms of tone and flexibility but the AMPLIFi at in home levels is way much re than adaquate... my Yamaha THR was doing a fine job in this role before. I might have someone who things they may want my Helix.. at this point I can't see any reason not to let it go and use the AMPLIFi around the house. I can only see the downside of not having it to record and playout with which I don't intend to do. I don't enjoy tweaking that much these days.. am I missing something? Seems like the AMPLIFi will do all I need.
