Loud Percussive Popping sound from Spider II Combo 212

I recently purchased a Line 6 Spider II Combo 212 and when I'm playing through it, even at low volume, a very loud, rapid, percussive popping can start and won't stop until I turn off the amp which then makes an even louder pop. Obviously something in the electronics. Any ideas what might be causing this? Your input is appreciated.
