  1. Thanks man, as also much appreciated. I pictured using the two dxrs as stage monitors and the k12.2s as the mains. I’m also now thinking I need two subs. This should pretty much cover me for smallish venues, shouldn’t it? Cheers again

    FRFR question

Hey guys. I currently run my helix through a Yamaha DXR12 and have always been happy. I play in a couple of bands, one of them being a cover band that often plays in small clubs where we need to supply the PA. I was thinking of buying three more speakers and a sub, so we don’t have to fork out $250 a show for the pa. I love the Yamaha but I’ve also heard real good things about the QSC K12. If I bought one more Yamaha and then two QSC’s would that sound good as a PA system, or would they clash? I know nothing about this stuff. PA stuff aside, if I wanted to run my helix with two speakers, would it work if I had one of each? Or is it better to just stick to one brand or the other? I’m such a noob, I’m aware, but basically I want to know if I should sell my Yamaha and get four QSC’s, or if I should go two and two, or just stick with Yamaha? Hope this made some kind of sense. Is there an even better speaker in the similar price range that I am unaware of?
  3. Awesome, that sounds like the go for me. Thanks heaps
  4. So have I got this right? Am I missing anything? On the helix: In global settings - set 1/4” output to line set xlr to mic set volume knob controls to 1/4” on the dxr12: Helix L/Mono out to dxr channel 2 line input level knob 12 o’clock d-contour on floor monitor (for amp style use) hpf set to 100 hz mic level on channel 1 if using xlr Also, quick question, if I were to use a DI box, couldn’t I use the L/Mono out of the helix into the DI and use the DI’s 1/4” output to plug into the DXR12? Then have the DI’s xlr out going to the mixer? Or instead of that, could I just use an xlr from the helix to the dxr channel input and then use the L/Mono out of the helix into the DI and xlr out of the DI to the mixer? If so, would I need to make any of the helix global settings different to above? phamtom power blocker don’t seem to be very common in Australia and are expensive from overseas
  5. That really is a huge help. Thank you very much. It’s a lot to wrap my head around but I’ll 100% give it my best shot
  6. Hey guys, total noob here. You guys were super helpful with my last query so I thought I’d try my luck again. Ive got a helix and a Variax Shuriken, and I’m about to get a Yamaha DXR12. What I would like to know is, what is the best way to set that up in a live situation? Ive read plenty of threads on this, but they just confused my noob brain. I just plug straight into the Yamaha with a 1/4” jack, don’t I? Does anyone know what setting to put the speaker on if I’m going to be putting it behind me like a normal amp, or would it be best in front of me? Also, what’s the best way to plug into foh? I don’t have any xlr cables, but I’ve heard you can just plug into the mixer with a 1/4”? Would that work just as well, or should I get some xlr cables? Plus, do I need to get really long ones for gigs, or do venues tend to have them available? Ive also heard a lot about DI’s... should I get one? If so what’s the setup? Like from the Helix 1/4 out to the DI and then another lead out of the DI into the mixer, or something? I’m very bloody confused. Now, I’ve just heard about the L6 Link!! What the heck is that!!!! Do I need that too??? Please could someone tell me, in layman’s terms what to do, both with cables and settings on the helix? many thanks
  7. Thanks heaps guys, I’m a total noob at both the helix and this forum, I can’t figure out how to reply to you individually. This is a HUGE learning curve for me. I’ve played in rock and metal bands for 15 years, but I always just plugged into a noise gate and then into my Engl Fireball. That’s it. I’ve never owned any other pedals, don’t know anything about signal chains, or tweaking eqs, or mic positioning etc. I don’t know hardly anything. I’m seriously confused as to how to plug in to front of house for live shows. Like, do I need a DI box or something? And where the hell do I plug that into? Simplicity was always my friend. However, I recently bought the Shuriken Variax so I could change my tunings easily. Then I fell into this bloody helix rabbit hole and have now bought one and am selling my engl so I can buy a Yamaha drx12. Anyway, my point is, while I have already spent a good thirty hours playing with this thing and look forward to the hundreds of hours ahead, I’m not getting anywhere with my metal tone. I’ve got some killer cleans and lead, but absolute crap with metal. I’ve downloaded a heap off of custome tone but had no luck. I’m aware that even after purchasing some presets I’ll have plenty of tweaking to do, but I want/need a very good starting point. I don’t think I can stress how incompetent my knowledge is when it comes to this stuff. But, i lollipoping love this thing and I’m well it’s me that is producing the lollipop metal tone and not it. I cannot wait till the day I can crank loud and play hard and heavy with my perfect tone. I’ll definitely check out all the vids etc you guys posted. cheers
  8. So, I’ve done a lot of research and am pretty sure I’ll be giving the freman big pack and the freman update 2.30/2.50. However, most of the posts I’ve found are a couple of years old, so just wanna make sure they’re still the best for rock and metal and if there are any others out there you could recommend buying? Also, is it necessary to get both of the Freman packs?
