  1. I have been enjoying my Catalyst 60, but I am having an issue with the chime (distortion) on Carillon. With things set for Mary Jane's Last Dance, the distortion fades away abruptly, in an unpleasant way, after ~3 seconds. Is this happening to anyone else? I typically keep the Boost at 50% and the Gain at 20% on this model, but if I use Gain for chime and turn the Boost off the issue remains. Humbuckers and single coils all have this issue, even with the guitar volume set at different levels.
  2. In my opinion the best blues models are Boutique A, and if you have done the update, Boutique B as well. Step 0: Screw around with the knobs on Boutique A until it sounds the way you like. Save the model once it is dialed in, and write the settings down because it will be over-written when you flash the new models. Step 1: Flash the new models with the CX version of the amp. Step 2: Re-save the Boutique A the way you like it. Screw around with Boutique B until that is where you want it. You can also save variations to slots you don't use, like maybe the Hi Gain slots.
  3. Hello everyone. Has anyone had success getting the Carillon model (Chime A) to sound more Voxy? I find the model to sound too smooth, not harsh or cutting enough. The Youtube video comparing a Catalyst to a real AC15 shows as much. The closest I've come is as follows. Boost: 55% - This adds some of the requisite harshness. Getting the chime with gain just sounded way too smooth. Gain: 25% Bass: 30% Mid: 50% Treble: 68% Presence 60%
  4. I like my Cat 60, especially for $240 at Sam Ash! My opinion may change as the speaker breaks in, but so far these are my thoughts: Pluses -The new models are consistently great. -Very flexible. -Low volume sounds are excellent. -Between the dynamics with pick attack and ability to adjust the sag, this can even feel like a tube amp! Minuses -The amp lacks bass, and especially deep bass. I get it, the design is open back which generates less bass, but my open backed tube amps produce all the bass I needed for big, Fender-y cleans. Line6 went with the most open back cab design I've seen, maybe that is why thr depth is lacking. -More Helix models of Fender, Vox, and Orange amps please. Helix has several options starting with "U.S." for Fender, "Essex" for Vox, and "Mandarin" for Orange. The Catalyst doesn't, and I'd pay for those models. -More editing controls would be welcome. My last modified tube amp gave me more sound shaping options than the fully digital Catalyst Edit software does! -Please put a cheap screen on this. -I should have to hold thr Manual button down to change to my presets. I wish I could press the Manual button, have it illuminate in a different color, then use the model selector knob to access presets. -I don't like that if I'm using Clean A and switch to Crunch A, that when I go to channel B, the amp will switch to Clean B. I wish this was an option in Catalyst Edit. Models I especially like -Archetype Clean - Good cleans. Not amazing, but good. BTW, I felt the Blackstar Silverline was superior with cleans, but it has an expensive speaker and closed back for the necessary bass. -Elmsley - Good model. I cut out some bass and use this for a top-boosted Brian May type sound. -Ventoux - Can't get enough of this combination of a midrange-y Orange and Tweed! Great stuff from this Tweed - Orange hybrid. -2204 Mod - Good Van Halen-y sounds can be had. My Brown Sound in a Box pedal does it a bit better, but it can't also do AC/DC like the Cat can. Models I don't like -Clarity - 1 month ago I had two tube amps. Both the Marshall-y one and the Fender one did cleans way better. The Catalyst lacks enough bass for great clean voices. -Oblivion - Badonk does the high gain stuff better. -Voltage - I much prefer the 2204 Mod for this type of sound. -Kinetic - The distortion is harsher than I like. With a highly touch sensitive model, I want to be rewarded with a more pleasant distortion when I hit it hard.
