  1. For a while I thought I was going crazy with my guitar amp tone. Sometimes it would sound good and at other times it would sound thin. I have a spider jam and a Stagg les paul with humbuckers. At one point the wiring on my guitar cables and output jack were so frayed that they weren't even connected to the plugs and causing a horrific screeching sound. I re-soldered everything to the best of my abilities at the time. I still experienced inconsistent amp sound for quite a while. Recently I checked the cables again and I noticed that some of the individual wires in the cables were not fully connected in both my output jack and cable. I cut open my guitar cable and saw that some the grounding wire had broken inside the cable. When it came to re-soldering, I made sure that all the wires were fully connected and none of them were going nowhere. Now when I play, there is far more bass and my guitar tone sounds fuller. I should note that I also made adjustments to the bridge height, to eliminate fret buzz. The screech has pretty much disappeared. So my question is, can a minor thing such as one little disconnected wire in a stranded cable in the output jack and guitar cable alter the tone that significantly? I I know I pretty well answered my own question, but I am just wondering if it could be my bridge height tuneup or the faulty connections or if I have done something else to my guitar without knowing it that is affecting the tone.
